Welcome to the November edition of the Swim England North East newsletter! As 2025 is beginning to draw a close, we’re celebrating another year of progress, inclusion, and opportunity across our aquatic community. This month’s update is packed with exciting announcements — from the upcoming 2026 Regional (50m) Swimming Championships in Leeds and Sunderland, to new learning and development initiatives for coaches and athletes alike. Don’t forget to collect your favourite moments from the Regional Championships gallery before it closes on 3rd December 2025, and explore fresh opportunities for Young Leaders, clubs, and volunteers through our workshops, funding options, and inclusive programmes. Together, we’re continuing to build a region that supports every athlete, coach, and club to reach their full potential in and out of the water.

SENER (25m) Championships - Collect your Photos!
The expiry date for the gallery of the Regional Championships will be on Wednesday 3rd December 2025, so be sure to collect your photos by then!
Swim England North East Regional (50m) Swimming Championships 2026
The Swim England North East Regional (50m) Swimming Championships 2026 will be split into two events. There will be an Age Group Championships which will be held at John Charles Centre for Sport, Leeds on 25th-26th April & 9th-10th May. The Open/Youth Championships will be held at the Sunderland Aquatic Centre on 2nd-4th May.
Swim England New WhatsApp Community for Coaches
Swim England are trialling a new way to keep you updated with their new WhatsApp community for all coaches involved in aquatics throughout England.
Short Courses - Coaching for skill development
Swim England has launched a wave of learning and development opportunities designed to empower and inspire coaches at every level within aquatic clubs.
Supporting the junior to senior transition in swimming
Coaches of junior athletes play a vital role in laying the foundations for long-term athletic development.
To help support the transition from junior to senior swimming, Swim England has developed an online resource called ‘Supporting the junior to senior swimmer transition through optimising physical preparation: A framework for competitive and performance swimmers’.
The Ripple Effect Project – Resources Available
The Ripple Effect project, funded by Spirit of 2012, has now come to an end – but its impact continues.
Working with National Disability Sports Organisations (NDSOs), the initiative helped break down barriers and promote inclusive volunteering across aquatics.
To support long-term change, resources such as the Ripple Effect report and the ‘Good Club Guide: Engaging Disabled Volunteers’ are now available to help clubs build welcoming environments: The Ripple Effect – Swim England
Young Leader Development Opportunities 2026
The Swim England North East Region are looking to provide various training and development opportunities for Young Leaders throughout 2026.
Young Leader Event volunteering Opportunity – Swim England National Winter Championships 2025
An opportunities is currently available for Young Leaders to be Kit Carriers at the the GoCardless Swim England National Winter Championships (25m) 2025, Ponds Forge Sheffield, 11 – 14 December 2025.
These roles are available during each of the the evening sessions from 16:45 to 20:30 each day. All volunteers will receive a Speedo/Swim England Polo Shirt/T-shirt and a spectator ticket will be made available for the parent accompanying them to the event.

Free Online Workshop: Challenging Behaviour Through Active Bystander Training
Following the success of their previous session, Sarah Balysis and her Sport Welfare colleagues from Rise North East are once again hosting a FREE online workshop on Challenging Behaviour through Active Bystander Training.
Artistic Swimming Training Opportunities – Chief Recorder Course
Swim England will be running an Artistic Swimming Chief Recorder course on Tuesday 4th November 6:30-8pm and Wednesday 19th November 6:30-8pm.
The course will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and is open to anyone who has attended the Assistant Chief Recorder course or has experience of scoring.

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Para‑Swim Coach to join the aquatics team at Harrogate Leisure & Wellbeing Hub. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to support the development of para-swimmers through inclusive, engaging, and high-quality coaching.

This reschedule workshop for parents focuses on supporting your child as they progress through the development pathway.
New Athlete Development Workshops for 2025/26
The Swim England North East Region are please to make available three different Athlete Development Workshops each covering different subject areas which aim to support the development of athletes aged from 11 to 16 years from across all our aquatic disciplines.
Funding Opportunity in York & North Yorkshire
The following fund has recently become available for clubs to consider.
The Movement, Activity and Sport Investment Programme is a £2.75 million programme, dedicated to reducing these inequalities and improving wellbeing through increased participation in movement, activity and sport.
