Annual statistics for Modern Apprenticeships published

The latest annual statistics for Modern Apprenticeships 2021/22 have been published.

The number of Modern and Graduate Apprenticeship starts in the last financial year has risen to 26,548 – 34% higher than the previous year. 

The figures demonstrate the role apprenticeships are playing to help employers and young people through Scotland’s economic transition from the pandemic.

Employers develop a new future for Scotland's engineering sector 

A new Apprenticeship in Engineering and Digital Manufacturing has been created to ensure that Scotland and its employers have the skills necessary to prosper in a digital manufacturing environment.

The apprenticeship is the first of its kind to incorporate training in Artificial Intelligence, 3D modelling and data science.

Balfour provides a flying start in construction for schools

SAAB members, Balfour Beatty, have worked with Skills Development Scotland to develop a new 'Drones in Construction' workshop which is now available for all Secondary schools across Scotland.

A launch event took place at Uddingston Grammar, giving pupils some hands on experience with drones, capturing images of famous Scottish structures. The learning activity is now available through My World of Work

SAAB features in SDS's Annual Review

  • Skills Development Scotland have recently published their annual review for 2021/22. Looking back over the last year, the report in covers an ambitious redesign of Scotland’s careers system and strong growth in apprenticeships. SAAB features in the review which includes work on the Sustainability of Apprenticeships, led by Paul Sheerin (Employer Engagement Group) of Scottish Engineering and Anna McCormack (Apprentice Engagement Group) of Microsoft.

Apprenticeship development

  • Help design and develop apprenticeships for your sector. SDS are looking for employers who can support with the current phase of standards and frameworks development across a variety of sectors: management; finance; customer services; hospitality; equine; freight and logistics; and manufacturing products.
