Dear Flinders graduate Last night the 2021 Alumni Award winners were announced at a gala dinner held at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Dr Rosemary Brooks OAM (PhD(Hums) ’79) received our highest honour of a Convocation Medal. Ethics in geography awarded
The 2021 Geoethics Medal of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics has been awarded to Emeritus Professor Iain Hay (GradCertTertEd ’96, MEdMgmt ’04) for his tireless work to overcome injustice through practical and conceptual means. He has also led international professional development initiatives on ethics in geography; shaped geographical organisations’ codes of ethics; and developed influential educational resources on ethics.
International scholarships for our brightest young minds
The General Sir John Monash Foundation in the UK has given scholarships for academic opportunities to Flinders University Bachelor of Speech Pathology graduate, Rebecca Keeley (BSpPath '16) and Darcy Dunn-Lawless, a Flinders University biomedical engineering researcher. Rebecca will now study an MBA at Oxford University. Read more
Global prize for tackling gambling and gambling addition
Associate Professor Daniel King (MPsych(Clin) ’13) was awarded the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network Laureate for 2021 in the field of Social Sciences for his research in tackling gambling and gambling addiction. The annual prize is for scientists or researchers aged under 40, for novel advancement or achievement in scientific education, research, or serving humanity. Read more
Culturally responsive teaching recognised
Alumna and College of Nursing and Health Sciences senior lecturer Dr Nina Sivertsen (BNg(Hons) '07, PhD(Ng/Midwif) ’14, GradCertEd(HighEd) ’16) received a South Australian Winnovation Award. The award recognised her work on the Flinders Malpa Nursing Model, a culturally responsive way to teach nursing students about First Nations health. Read more

Caregiving relationships in healthcare: Online survey
Researchers from Flinders University are investigating how caregiving relationships are understood in professional health settings in Australia. You are invited to participate in an online 15-30 minute survey. Participants will receive a $20 gift voucher in recognition of their contribution. Emeritus Professor Lindon Wing OAM
We were saddened to learn that a founding academic of the School of Medicine, Emeritus Professor Lindon Wing OAM passed away last week. Professor Wing was Dean of the School of Medicine (now the College of Medicine and Public Health) at Flinders University from 1998 to 2007. He had been associated with the School since 1976, initially as a Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology before being promoted to Professor in 1992. He was made an Emeritus Professor of Flinders University in 2007. Learn more
