Surplus High-Value Equipment Wanted/Needed

Doing a summer clean out? Have perfectly working equipment that you no longer need? List it on the Division’s webpage for Surplus High-Value Equipment for your colleagues across the Institute to happily retrieve from you. To post equipment: please send a description, specs, and photo to commofc@caltech.edu. Please also include the date you will e-waste if there are no takers. It is assumed that the equipment is working and generally available at no-cost to others at the Institute, aside from transport to be mutually arranged.

Spotlight On Our People

Haixu Shen

Haixu Shen

Graduate Student, Andrew and Peggy Cherng Department of Medical Engineering

I'm a 4th year graduate student in Medical Engineering, working with Professor Yu-Chong Tai. My research mainly focuses on translation medical devices, in particular, an affordable and portable stroke sensor for quick stroke detection for home or ambulance settings. In this way, patients can get a quick diagnosis before even arriving at the hospital, which can vastly speed up the treatment and reduce brain damage. I enjoy the multidisciplinary nature of my research, having to learn knowledge from various fields. Outside of research, I like exploring foods from different cultures. I also enjoy playing basketball with my friends.

Robert Pontes de Carvalho

Roberta Carvalho

Department Administrator, Computing and Mathematical Sciences

I have worked at Caltech for the last eight years, and I love the sense of community and diversity it brings. It is inspiring to work with the greatest minds in the world and see their research become a reality that can save lives and facilitate our daily activities. I have worked as an HR Events & Education Consultant for three years and completed my fifth year as the Department Administrator of the Computing and Mathematical Sciences Department. I am passionate about learning new cultures and languages. I speak Portuguese and Spanish and hope to become fluent in French. I am Brazilian, and apart from living there and in the US, I have also lived in the UK, Switzerland, and Spain. I love doing yoga and plan to be fully certified as a yoga teacher one day.

We'd like to feature you!
