Impacts of BVD in the beef herd

Back in the summer we visited Northamptonshire to speak to beef farmer and contractor Pete Burbage, to get a first hand account of the devastating effects BVD can have in a herd.

Have your say on the BVDFree farmer login

All holdings registered with BVDFree should have received a login to the database. This functions allows members to see all their results held on the database.

We would like to hear your views on the login, particularly on what functions you would like to see developed next. Take 2 minutes to complete our survey to help make the BVDFree database work for you.

Results not showing on your login?

Only results sent to a designated lab on a BVDFree submission form are uploaded to the database. If your results don’t appear please contact your lab directly to ask for these to be sent across.

 

Print individual animal BVD statuses online

The BVDFree database now allows you to print individual animal BVD statuses. Enabling you to promote the high health status of your stock when trading.

Simply enter a full UK number at https://bvdfree.org.uk/ and click 'download certificate'.

BVD Stamp it Out update

Read the September blog from AHDB Beef and Lamb to find out the latest on the RDP ‘BVD stamp it out’ funding being delivered by SAC Consulting.

Please note: BVDFree members are eligible to receive this funding. It provides a good opportunity for farmers not engaged with BVDFree to join the scheme as  funding covers upload of results to the BVDFree database in addition to testing and vet time.

 

Is your herd eligible for 'BVDFree Test Negative' status?

If you meet the following criteria you can apply for herd status today:

  1. Registered with BVDFree
  2. Completed 2 annual tests negative for BVD
  3. Results are held on the BVDFree database
  4. Your vet has passed the BCVA BVD training

Print and complete the form below, ensure it is signed by yourself and a BCVA BVD accredited vet and send it back to BVDFree.

Free historic uploads for new members

Do you know farmers who are yet to join BVDFree? If they register today their historic BVD results can be uploaded to the database free of charge.

This is available for all samples tested in a BVDFree designated lab since 1 July 2016.

If results are held by NML or CIS they will automatically be uploaded once registration is complete. For any other labs please contact them directly.
