No images? Click here Jokowi's real mission in Ukraine and RussiaIt has been a busy week for our dear President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. After attending a G-7 summit in Munich, Germany, Jokowi visited Ukraine and then Russia in what many regard as a peace mission to reduce tensions between the two countries. Jokowi is believed to be the first world leader to meet in person Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky after the war broke between the two countries. Indonesia may have an interest here, with Southeast Asia's largest economy being the host of the G20 meeting this year in Bali. The Rusia-Ukraine war has strained the meeting's preparation as some members threatened to boycott if Russia is allowed to attend. But, many analysts believe that Jokowi's visit is more than that. We must remember that former businessman Jokowi is a very pragmatic leader who knows what he wants when it comes to the economy. After the meetings, Putin and Zelensky guaranteed the supply of food and fertiliser to re-enter the global market after being disrupted due to the war. This means Indonesia also secures the supply for wheat importers. Mission accomplished for Jokowi! Dear subscribers, we plan to merge the Indonesian Highlights newsletter with other newsletters. Aside from weekly updates in English, you will get a daily update on what is happening in Indonesian written by our editors.
