Central Otago District Arts Trust

Hello

What's On in Central Otago - November

Maniototo Area School Stilt Walkers at the Alexandra Buskers Festival.

Last week we held the first Alexandra Buskers Festival. It was great to see so many people come and support our buskers, encouraging to see young performers enjoying their first busking experience and magnificent to listen to some accomplished musicians on the streets of Alexandra. The Arts Trust would like to thank the Central Otago Musicians Inclusive Club, Liz Conway Music and Central Sounds for their collective volunteer efforts which all contributed to the success of the Alexandra Buskers Festival.

As always Novembers 'What's On' is packed with interesting things to see and do in the arts in Central Otago. Eade Gallery is hosting a second solo show following the success of Marg Hamilton's 'Looking at the Moon' exhibition. This month, works by Cromwell ceramicist Lynne Wilson will be on display from the 11th of November so don't forget to pop into Clyde and take a look.

Motivated by her experience as a 'Working Artist' at the Thyme Festival last week Central Otago artist Marion Vialade has decided to hold several 'Pop up Studio Open Days' at the Alexandra Community House throughout November. Everyone is invited to come along and watch Marion at work, have a chat and view some of her fabulous paintings and prints. Be prepared to get inspired!

Completing students work will be on show at the Otago Polytechnic Dunedin School of Art in the 2018 exhibition 'SITE' from the 24th of November. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with artists and works will be available to purchase. Painting, photography, jewellery, electronic arts and ceramics are some of the disciplines represented in this annual exhibition.

Many of you will be aware that Central Otago poet Michael Harlow was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement recently. In recognition of this outstanding achievement Central Stories are hosting an Award Celebration where Michael Harlow will speak on the importance of poetry and read some of his recent works.

Have a happy November!
