Stavely minerals exploration update

We have received more than 40 applications for new minerals exploration licences in the Stavely Arc since releasing ground for exploration on 2 May 2022.

The area covers around 11,000 square kilometres across parts of the Wimmera, north and east of Hamilton and around Mortlake with the potential to uncover copper, gold, other base metals, mineral sands and gypsum.

Applicants are required to advertise their licence application within 14 days of receiving an acceptance letter from us.

Several licence applications competing for the same areas are being assessed under our competing licence application policy.

If you would like more information about the Stavely applications please contact ERRfeedback@ecodev.vic.gov.au

Mineral licences financial standing guidance

We’ve prepared a new operational policy to provide better guidance for minerals licence applicants and licensees about how their financial capability will be assessed in a fair and consistent way.

Licensees and applicants must be able to finance their exploration or mining activities and site rehabilitation to hold a licence under the state’s minerals law.

The operational policy will also help to provide opportunities for new applicants to enter the industry in Victoria and assurance for the community that licensees will fulfil their regulatory obligations.

We consulted with key industry representatives to develop the operational policy, which is available on our website. We welcome feedback via ERRfeedback.vic.gov.au

Latest administrative updates

Earth Resources Regulation recently acknowledged two administrative updates.

One change enables the operator of a sand and gravel quarry in East Gippsland Shire to increase their extraction area within their existing work authority area.

The second change enables an operator to upgrade their fuel infrastructure on an existing mining operation in Mansfield Shire Council.

These practical changes qualified to be assessed as administrative updates without the need for a work plan variation because there was no significant increase in site risks.

If you are considering an administrative update to make changes to your operation, more information including templates, is available on the Earth Resources website.

Annual returns now overdue

Most authority holders have fulfilled their obligation to provide their annual returns by the due date.

The resource information provided by quarry operators, minerals explorers and miners in their annual returns is critical for resource planning and managing Victoria’s earth resources industries.

Authority holders and licensees whose annual returns are overdue can submit their annual returns via the RRAM portal. For help using the portal, contact RRAM.support@ecodev.vic.gov.au

Failure to submit a return by the due date may incur an infringement.

Monthly and quarterly reports
