AIL Sound Walls absorb rooftop equipment noise from Southern Methodist University’s new Weber End Zone facility

At Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas, they take their football very seriously, with their Mustangs finishing in the top of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2024. A good example is their new $100-million, 192,500-square-foot Garry Weber End Zone Complex at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. It anchors one end of the 32,000-seat stadium with an incredible new facility featuring three levels of athletics facilities, function rooms and premium seating spaces.

SMU also takes the comfort of their fans and neighbors very seriously. Case in point, they used a 257' run of AIL Sound Walls to surround the new complex’s rooftop equipment farm to mitigate unwanted noise. The Silent Protector (Absorptive) equipment surround can be seen here to the left of the jumbo screen.

LRT sound wall dons the pads for University of Houston practice field

When lightweight and easy-to-install AIL Sound Walls were planned for a particular section of Houston’s Metrorail expansion, the University of Houston was concerned about protecting their football players on their adjacent practice field, and the city of Houston was concerned about protecting their main sewer and storm drainage lines.

Silent Protector XL Series controls unwanted noise, reduces costs in American University sports field sound barrier wall

AIL Sound Walls designed and supplied a new noise barrier wall as part of an upgrade to American University’s Jacobs Field in Washington, DC. The 360′ long by 15′ high installation helps protect nearby residents from noise created by practices and events at the field. The project used our longer Silent Protector XL Series panels to maximize the spans and reduce the costs. With this XL product innovation, we can design our sound barrier walls with longer spans for all types of wind conditions — even in hurricane zones.

AIL Sound Walls used for reflective sound barrier around Atlanta Motorsports Park

Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP) is a private club for adrenaline-fueled driving enthusiasts. AMP had removed some trees that had provided a natural sound barrier. Neighboring residents and stable horses all said “nay” and a county judge ordered AMP to install a light-gauge metal sound barrier, similar to those used by the Georgia Department of Transportation. AMP knew those walls were not very attractive and prone to rusting. They discovered a more attractive, more effective and more economical alternative in lightweight PVC AIL Sound Walls and went back to the judge to get permission to use them instead.

Ontario ice rink notches sound-muffling win with equipment enclosures from AIL Sound Walls

The town of Grimsby, Ontario, was hot on their outdoor ice rink, but the immediate neighbors were cool on the noise emanating from its generator and chiller equipment. So the town got to work to find a solution and they chose a Silent Protector (Absorptive) System from AIL Sound Walls for the project.

The generator is located at the south end of the rink and the chillers at the north end — so two separate enclosures were required to keep the peace. Our team successfully resolved a couple of challenges on the project, including a buried gas line under one of the posts and the late request for an electrical access port.

AIL Sound Walls target unwanted noise from Michigan shooting range

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources operates over a dozen staffed and unstaffed shooting ranges for firearm users and archers. For several months in 2023, their Echo Point Shooting Range was closed while crews worked on site improvements, including additional sound-abatement measures. AIL Sound Walls were selected for this project. The final design used our longer Silent Protector XL Series Panels to maximize the spans and reduce foundation costs. It also allowed us to match the exact layout of two offset and overlapping 14′ walls that run a total of 176′ behind the shooting stalls.
