Welcome to our Social IssueThe lifeblood of any supply chain is people – and at GECA, we know there's no such thing as sustainability without accounting for social impacts. A sustainable future requires a holistic approach - acknowledging the interconnectedness between the environment, people and economic outcomes. Unfortunately, the pandemic has exacerbated existing pressures on workers around the world. There's never been a more crucial time for organisations to step up and embrace supply chain transparency! Becoming GECA certified is one excellent way to achieve this. Each of our lifecycle ecolabel standards includes social
criteria, such as equal opportunity, fair pay, lawful conduct, modern slavery reporting, and commitments to international initiatives such as the UN Global Compact. In this issue of the GECA Newsletter, we explore the critical nature of embedding social into your sustainability policies and provide resources to help you get started.

The Value of Social Hotspot Assessments
One way to begin your journey in improving social sustainability in your company is to undertake a high-level assessment of social risks across your company's global supply chains using a Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) method. We've created a GECA Guide to outline how you can use this tool to obtain transparent
information on worker's rights, community development, consumer protections, and societal benefits, improve your management of social responsibility issues, and plan improvements.
Access FREE Training on Social Sustainability with Supply Chain Sustainability School
At GECA, we know that creating a more sustainable and prosperous future requires us to invest in genuinely symbiotic and inclusive supply chains. That's one of the many reasons we're proud to be an Industry Fellow and Silver Member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School. The School's
resources cover environmental, social and economic sustainability topics, including modern slavery, diversity inclusion, climate change and circular economy. We sat down with the School's CEO, Hayley Jarick, to unpack how the platform can benefit everyone in any industry in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Recognising Indigenous Knowledges is Not Just Culturally Sound, it’s Good Science
