SCC 100-02 - Introduction to Strategic Communication This introductory course in strategic communication emphasizes communication theory and practice associated with the advancement of an organization's mission, vision, product and/or service. Specifically, this course focuses on the persuasive use of messaging in the organizational context and develops skills in the purposeful use of communication. MWF from 9 - 9:50 AM and taught by Dr. Kuchenbecker COM 329-01 - Black Identity & Communication The course will explore identity, human interaction, and the dynamic process of acquiring, managing, and executing rhetorical qualities which constitute subjective culture. Students will analyze the socio-historic and discursive construction of Black/African American identity. Furthermore, the course will draw from essays, speeches, music, and popular artifacts to illustrate the communication of nonmonolithic identity. Tuesdays from 4 - 6:50 PM and taught by Dr. Mark Hopson COM 102-04 - Public Speaking in a Diverse Society An introduction to the skills of public presentation development, oral delivery, and using supporting media, with special attention paid to informative and persuasive messages. This course emphasizes the necessity of audience analysis, as well as sensitivity and adaptation to the unique cultural perspectives of listeners. MWF from 12 - 12:50 PM and taught by Ms. Jana Dimas SCC 425-01 - Communication in the Non-Profit Organization This course focuses on nonprofit organizational communication at the macro and micro levels. Through a combination of readings, case analysis, writings, discussions, and guest speakers, students gain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the non-profit sector. Topics included in this class are: organizational identity, change processes, fund-raising, advocacy, stress and burnout, board management and professionalism. The antecedents and explanations for social networking site password sharing in romantic relationships," Dr. Megan Vendemia and Dr. Jennifer Bevan examined reasons why individuals shared their social networking site passwords with their romantic partners and how these reasons relate to relationship quality and online jealousy. U.S. adults currently or recently in romantic relationships (N = 948) completed an online survey assessing relationship characteristics and reasons for password sharing. The Institute of Reading Development is now hiring summer teachers to lead our summer reading enrichment programs, designed to foster a love of reading while building critical reading skills in students of all ages.
