From the Mayor

This week is National Reconciliation Week, and an opportunity for all of us to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

It is also the first week of the annual Gai-mariagal Festival, a celebration of the oldest living culture on the planet.

The annual festival began this Monday, National Sorry Day, with Aboriginal Elder and artist Walangari Karntawarra guiding local students and the community to create a traditional western desert sand painting at Wahroonga Park.

Thank you to all the students and teachers from Abbotsleigh Junior and Wahroonga Preparatory schools and Tennyson Preschool who joined Council and the community to mark this special occasion.

Gai-mariagal runs until the end of NAIDOC Week on 13 July. There are a range of wonderful events and activities on offer and I invite you to get involved. Check out our website for more details.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their feedback on the Ku-ring-gai Transport Oriented Development (TOD) Preferred Alternative.

Council’s Extraordinary Council Meeting to discuss this matter has been adjourned to Thursday 5 June. This allows Council sufficient time to consider the issues and feedback raised during the public forum on 21 May.

Have a great weekend.

Mayor Christine Kay
