What's On in Central Otago - September

Bannockburn is one of Central's special spots...a place with few footpaths, good wine and intriguing evidence of its goldmining histories. With
some of the most spectacular views of the Pisa and Dunstan Ranges to be had at every turn it is no surprise that a number of artists have chosen to settle in and around this area. From September 26th - 30th 'Across the Bridge in Bannockburn' celebrates these artists, this environment and plenty more, with an exciting line up of workshops, exhibitions and entertainment. Click on the link above for a full programme. Alexandra is once again welcoming spring
with the annual Contact Alexandra Blossom Festival starting on Friday the 21st of September with The News Round the Clock Race and Mardi Gras. The Grand Procession starts at 11.45 on Saturday while celebrations in the park continue with entertainment for all ages including jugglers, magic shows, clowns and market stalls. Headline acts this year are the RED Band, The Nukes and the Massed Pipe Band Display. For further information and a full list of supporting events, (including the Central Otago Art Society Blossom Festival Exhibition), check out the webpage www.blossom.co.nz. The Arts Trust have teamed up with the Central Otago Music Inclusive Club, Liz Conway Music and Central Sounds to bring a three day Buskers Festival to the streets of Alexandra during this year's CO Reap Thyme Festival. We are on the hunt for local talent - young and older people interested in performing in designated areas on the main street of Alexandra. Musicians are welcome to play and/ or sing whatever they like and of course, put their hats out! Central Otago Mayor, Tim Cadogan has
already signed up for a spot and we hope to get momentum rolling on this exciting event in the coming weeks. Festivities continue this month with a screening of the Manhattan Short Film Festival at Central Cinema in Alexandra. Central Otago is the only place in New Zealand where you can view these 9 short films, selected from some 1,600 entries from across 73 countries. The Final 9 represent a wide variety of genres including intimate dramas,
fast-paced animation, spine-tingling tales, a World War 11 epic, a film shot entirely underwater and a dark comedy. Finally, we strive to keep the Central Otago Arts Website up-to-date and relevant and are in the process of collating a list of people who offer private tuition in areas such as music, dance and the visual arts to include on our 'Youth Resources' platform. If you would like your organisation included on our website or if you can think of someone you know who would benefit from this opportunity please call me on 0224626328 or email me at info@centralotagoarts.com. Hope you have a happy September!
