Nominations for the 2024 SA Climate Leaders Awards have been extended

Local climate change innovators will be celebrated at the 2024 SA Climate Leaders Awards on 1 August 2024, but there’s still time to nominate! Nominations have been extended until Friday, 5 July 2024.

The SA Climate Leaders Awards are an initiative of the Premier’s Climate Change Council to recognise the important work happening across the state to build resilience and respond to a changing climate.

Nominations are invited from community, business and industry, researchers, educators, schools and governments – with $10,000 awarded to one overall winner as a contribution to a climate change-related action.

Have YourSAy on the draft SA Health Climate Change Framework

Climate change is the most significant health challenge and opportunity of our century and action is needed now, to ensure the future health of South Australians.

Vulnerable people, including those with insecure housing, poverty, chronic illnesses, older South Australians and the young, will be most affected.

In response, a draft SA Health Climate Change Framework has been developed in collaboration with key stakeholders.

The draft Framework proposes eight priority action areas and reflects some excellent work already underway within SA Health’s hospitals, health services and facilities. It also recognises the significant roles the broader health sector has in climate mitigation, adaption and supporting the community.

Help shape our state’s robust solution and have your say on the YourSAy website by Friday 21 June 2024.

New planning rules to protect Adelaide’s tree canopy

New planning regulations have been introduced to protect Adelaide’s urban tree canopy, recognising the important role trees play in promoting community wellbeing, supporting biodiversity and reducing the “urban heat effect”.

Taking immediate effect, the new regulations will protect trees with a smaller trunk circumference and reduce exemptions for tree protections based on distance from a home or pool.

The new regulations will also better protect tree canopy by placing pruning limits on regulated and significant trees, and provide flexibility to adapt the exempt species list to local needs and community views.

Fees for destroying or removing protected trees will also increase, better reflecting the cost of tree replacement.
