Ramadan is here. How can publicly funded schools support Muslim students, foster partnerships with Muslim families and communities and embrace opportunities to sow seeds for combatting Islamophobia?

Today in The Conversation Canada, Asma Ahmed of Niagara University in Ontario writes about the importance of public schools truly being spaces where students from all cultures and backgrounds feel a deep sense of belonging.

She writes: “Muslim youth need spaces in their communities, including their schools, where they are free to be themselves and do not have to worry about facing prejudice. Youth need their schools to be safe havens to build their positive sense of self.”
