Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the opening of the last piece of the 11-kilometre walk was a fundamental part of Barangaroo’s transformation from a once neglected and inaccessible area into a world-class cultural, residential, business and retail hub. “I am excited to open this stunning new foreshore walk in Barangaroo, which not only connects the natural surroundings of Barangaroo Reserve with the business district of Barangaroo South, but also completes the scenic walk along Sydney Harbour from Woolloomooloo to the Anzac Bridge. “The walk is a beautiful 15-metre-wide, tree-lined boulevard on Sydney’s waterfront and will be used by cyclists, commuters and visitors every day. It is designed by award-winning landscape architect Peter Walker, who also designed the Barangaroo Reserve. “This new public space demonstrates our commitment to ensure more than half of Barangaroo is public open space and opens up this once neglected and inaccessible area for the community to enjoy.” Ms Berejiklian said. Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said the opening of the final part of the Barangaroo foreshore demonstrated the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to creating more public space throughout Sydney. “In October last year, we opened Waterman’s Cove and today we make available another 300 metres of public space which runs alongside our world-famous harbour. “The pandemic has showed us how vital public space is and with more people coming back into the CBD, we need more spaces like this one at Barangaroo. “More than 100 trees were planted in this section of the foreshore walk which contributes to our goal to plant one million trees by 2022,” Mr Stokes said. LAST CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - $24 MILLION LIVE MUSIC SUPPORT PACKAGE CLOSING MONDAYLive music venues throughout Sydney and NSW are encouraged to apply for funding through the NSW Government’s $24 million Live Music Support package. Applications for the package close on Monday 19 April, and eligible venues can apply for funding to support operational costs related to running the venue including employing musicians and support crew, or marketing activities. Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the Live Music Support package, administered by Destination NSW, was targeted support for an industry that had been hit hard by the pandemic. “Everyone has missed live music, the industry is coming out of hibernation, and this package will ensure our much-loved venues are there to host the gigs people want to see as they celebrate NSW emerging from the pandemic. “Live music plays an important role in the sustainability and growth of NSW’s visitor economy as we know gigs motivate people to travel, to enjoy a night or weekend out, and to connect with our creative industries. “This grants program is part of the NSW Government’s $51.5 million Tourism Support Package, which has been designed to help the businesses that need assistance now, and to create opportunities into the future,” Mr Ayres said. Minister for the Arts Don Harwin said the NSW Government was committed to the long-term sustainability of the arts. “These grants, worth $7,500 to $750,000 relative to venue capacity, are a shot in the arm for venues that have been dark for much of the past year. “Music is an antidote to many challenges we all face, and by getting artists and crew back to work we will be able to enjoy many more gigs in the coming months and years,” Mr Harwin said. Guidelines and FAQs are available via the application page. SYDNEY ARTS AND CULTURE CONTINUES TO STAY UP LATESydneysiders and visitors will have more opportunity than ever to get their culture fix at iconic institutions across the CBD, after the NSW Government’s Culture Up Late initiative was extended until the end of June 2021. Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the initiative formed part of the NSW Government’s CBD revitalisation plan to bring people back to the CBD. “Sydney is open for business, with cultural institutions, restaurants, cafes and bars ready to welcome guests these school holidays and beyond. “We’re turbocharging our economic recovery by keeping businesses in business and people in jobs and making it both safe and fun for people to come and enjoy the best of what our city has to offer. “The extension of the Culture Up Late program along with Dine & Discover and our upcoming accommodation vouchers initiative means there’s no better time to enjoy a night out in the city,” Mr Perrottet said. The Art Gallery of NSW, Australian Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Powerhouse Museum, State Library of NSW, Sydney Living Museums, and Sydney Opera House are participating in Culture Up Late. Check participating institutions’ website for individual operating hours and specific programming. MORE THAN $2.3 MILLION FOR COUNCILS TO MANAGE THEIR COASTLINESThe NSW Government announced more than $2.3 million in coastal funding for councils through the 2020-2021 Coastal and Estuary Grants Program’s planning stream this week, to aid councils in managing their coastlines. Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock congratulated the councils of Ballina Shire, Bellingen Shire, Byron Shire, City of Canterbury-Bankstown, Fairfield City, Kiama Municipal, Shoalhaven City and Wollongong City in partnership with Shellharbour City on their successful applications for funding. “This funding will ensure councils are supported as they manage the health of our unique coasts and estuaries while improving the resilience of coastal communities through well-planned action. “Our Coastal and Estuary Grants Program’s planning stream supports councils to understand the complex coastal and estuarine environment, and ensure our enviable coastlines are protected now and into the future. “These latest grants will greatly benefit councils and ensure they can undertake works including scoping studies, preparing their Coastal Management Programs (CMP), updating coastal hazard assessments as well as determining the best way to manage erosion, accretion and inundation issues,” Mrs Hancock said. Last year, the NSW Government increased its funding ratio for planning grants and now offers $2 for every $1 provided by a council, which will assist them with developing their CMPs. There are currently five funding streams under the Coastal and Estuary Grants Program with one stream dedicated to planning and studies, and the other four designed to implement works identified in certified coastal or estuary management plans. Councils can apply for funding to undertake planning and studies at any time during the year, while applications for funding to implement works are available annually.
