MEE SPEAK
BACK TO THE FUTURE! How wonderful it is, that during this year’s 110th anniversary of the Aston Martin company, there is so much positivity surrounding the Aston Martin brand today. With revived fortunes in the ultra-competitive arena of Formula 1, with the AMR23 F1 car, a new DB bloodline in the form of the recently launched and universally acclaimed DB12 and now, the release of the limited-edition, Aston Martin Valour. With the Valour’s more than passing resemblance to the production AM V8’s of the 1970’s & 80’s and echoes of the privateer entered AM V8 Le Mans 24hr contender, known as ‘The Muncher’, It’s terrific to see the new Valour subliminally acknowledging the classic AMV8 models, near 20-year production life. For the writer personally, the Valour’s nod to the classic AMV8’s is deeply satisfying, having spent 16 years with Aston Martin in London, selling new and pre-owned AM V8’s. With the amazingly positive public reaction to the Valour’s AM V8 overtones, is it possible we might see an increase in interest in the classic V8 range, from their current low to moderate market prices? Time, as they say, will tell but in our opinion, it is not impossible! An unforgettable highlight of the 110th
anniversary celebrations has to have been the 110 different Aston Martins circulating the GP circuit, during the just past British Grand Prix weekend. Spanning 11 decades, among the models impressing the crowds were the A3, Aston Martin’s oldest surviving car dating back over a century, through to the ultimate hypercar, the Aston Martin Valkyrie. Most models and derivatives were driven, some harder than others, around Silverstone’s GP circuit, being broadcast on TV and admired by the GP weekend attendees. It is certainly encouraging to us to see Aston Martin’s involvement in F1 leveraged in this way. A link to the video of the action is provided below. ASTON MARTIN HERITAGE FESTIVAL
SATURDAY 12th AUGUST, BRITISH MOTOR MUSEUM
Following the huge success of previous AMHT Heritage Festivals, held in June 2021 at Dallas Burston Polo Club and August last year at the Brooklands Museum, this year the event returns at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire. Not only celebrating the Aston Martin Heritage Trust’s 25th birthday, the event will also celebrate all things “Aston” with a host of collations, including: 60 years of the DB5, 20 years of the DB9, 75 years of the DB Bloodline and 110 Years of Aston Martin Lagonda Parking will be set out by era, so expect to be wowed by a display of cars ranging from the oldest surviving Aston Martin in the world, “A3”, through to the ultimate present-day performance cars. All are welcome, whether joining the display or simply admiring possibly the largest variety of Aston Martins one could ever hope to see. Last year, close to 700 Aston Martins, from all era’s, attended and we expect a similar (if not better) attendance this year. Vehicle exhibitor tickets start from £10.
