Congratulations to Katerina Bryant (HASS) on receiving outstanding results from examiners on her thesis titled "The Art of Falling and Looking for Loretta". Her thesis’ creative work is a speculative biography of the life of Loretta La Pearl – America’s first woman clown. Read more > 

 

PhD Candidate, Rachel Mynott (CMPH) from Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) is hoping to give those affected with a currently incurable form of blood cancer a fighting chance by seeking to understand if a newly identified form of cell death can help develop effective treatments. PhD candidate Nathan Harrison (CMPH) presented important new research on lung cancer screening and smoking at the recent Australian Lung Cancer Conference. Learn about his research, what inspired his work and his other role as a Senior Research Officer working on alcohol addiction. Read more >

What's New?

 

HDR INDUCTION FOR NEW STUDENTS

All new students will be required to complete the HDR Online Induction  in Canvas by Sunday 2 April 2023. Any students who have already begun the induction in the old FLO system can still complete it there or start over again in Canvas.

Please register to attend the online HDR Induction Seminar held on Monday 3 April 2023 (9.30am-11.30am SA time) where you will hear from the Dean of Graduate Research, Professor Diane Chamberlain about your candidature requirements and process. You will then hear from a panel of existing and past HDR students about the experiences of a HDR at Flinders.

 

FREE OPEN ACCESS PUBLISHING FOR HDRS

Flinders HDR students can take advantage of several Read & Publish deals that allow you to publish at no cost in selected journals. To be eligible, you need to be the corresponding author, affiliate to Flinders on the paper, and submit using your Flinders email address. A full list Free and Discounted Open Access publishing offers is available and you can view a list of eligible journals within each participating publisher. A few of these publishers have limits on the number of free articles they provide, so publish early in the year to avoid missing out.  If you have any queries, contact a librarian by submitting a Library Research Query via Service One.

 

HDR STUDENT ANNUAL SATISFACTION SURVEY - LAST CHANCE

The HDR Student Annual Satisfaction survey will close on Monday 6 March,  so this is your last chance to have your say, voice your opinion on the services and resources, and suggest improvements for the future. The survey is comprehensive and takes an average of 10-30 minutes to complete. There is one more $100 credit card voucher up for grabs, so get in before it closes. Complete the survey here >

 

THESIS FORMATTING AND LONG DOCUMENTS WORKSHOP

Do you have a messy word document and don't know how to fix it? This course will teach you how to set yourself up with a well-organised file. You will learn how to identify potential problem areas, how to lay out, using styles, importance of referencing correctly and preparing your thesis as a professional document for examination. The next course is held on Friday 17 March at 9.30am-12.00pm ACST, online. Book here >

 

2023 APRIL GRADUATION CEREMONIES

The  April graduation ceremonies will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre between Monday 17 and Wednesday 19 April. For details on specific college ceremony date and times see here under Step 2.   

If you are currently undertaking amendments and would like to attend the April ceremony please refer to this webpage on important dates.  

  • By 8 March - Complete and upload your thesis amendments in Inspire
  • By 10 March - Your supervisor to approve your amendments in Inspire
  • By 22 March - The final version of your thesis must be uploaded to the Library
  • Before 30 March - Ensure you have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) 
  • On 30 March - The University will automatically confer your degree.

Remember if you are eligible to attend the ceremony, you must register to attend. Details on how to register will be sent from the Graduation Office. 

 

GETTING OFF TO A GOOD START GUIDE

The Getting Off To A Good Start Guide has been prepared by the Health, Counselling and Disability Services and is an online resource filled with tips and advice for new or returning students who want to start the year as best they can.

  • Know your way around - This guide deals with learning your way around campus and online. 
  • Start your studies well - This guide deals with good study practices to develop early. 
  • Looking after yourself - This guide deals with looking after yourself whilst you study and how to engage in self-care. 
  • Your Support System - This guide talks about the supports available to you and how to find them. 
  • Further Reading - This guide recommends some further reading and resources that might be useful.

Have you ever been stuck on a single thought, a string of thoughts, or a topic that you keep returning to in your mind over and over again? Mental rehearsal is a normal and universal experience. However, if you find that you tend to dwell excessively on certain experiences – especially negative ones – you may be engaging in rumination. Read more >

 
 

BE WELL PLAN & STUDYOLOGY

 

The Be Well  Plan is a 5 x 2 hour program that teaches you how to develop your own mental health and wellbeing plan. Studyology is a 5 session group program designed to give you the psychological tools to combat common study problems like procrastination, perfectionism, low motivation and study avoidance.
