Banks Peninsula roading updatesCouncil contractors have repaired a significant amount of damage to the roads in Banks Peninsula following significant rainfall on 15 and 16 December 2021. Our contractors continue to work on minor repairs to the Banks Peninsula road network. We expect to finish working in the area by August. We have reached all major milestones on this project. This update will focus on some of the minor repair work that has been undertaken over the last few weeks. No further work has been undertaken on Big Hill Road, Stony Bay, Hickory Bay, Dalglishs Road. We have also indicated where road repairs have been delayed in the update below. We are excited to share that our contractors have completed all of the repair work at Le Bons Bay Road. Dalglishs RoadOriginal damage Various small slips, three road dropouts and flooding at the bottom of the road. Still to be completed The road dropout repairs have been delayed and are expected to begin in June. Timeframe for this work to be completed This will take 6 to 8 weeks to complete. The current state of the road Fully open. Road users should take care when passing the dropouts on this road. Flea BayOriginal damage Various flooding debris, one large debris flow and one blocked culvert caused damage to the road surface. Still to be completed Repairing the road dropout, road metaling and culvert works. Timeframe for completion The road metaling should be finished by the end of this week. The dropout repair and culvert works will be completed in June. The current state of the road Fully open. What work was undertaken over the last few weeks? The culverts have all been installed at the main dropout. What still needs to be completed? Below the main dropout, work is ongoing. Following the completion of this work, the road will be re-metalled. Timeframe for completion Work below the main drop out is likely to be completed in late June. What is the current state of the road? The road remains closed to all non-residents and landowners until repairs are complete along the entirety of Goughs Road. Gated, with resident and farm only access. Goughs Bay Original damage Various full length slips, dropouts on the bottom half of the road, with a full road dropout approximately halfway down. Hickory Bay Original damage Various slips along the full length and one main road drop out halfway. What work was undertaken over the few last weeks? There has been no further work carried out at Hickory Bay. What still needs to be completed? Still need to repair the road dropouts and culverts. Timeframe for completion Work repairing the road dropouts and the culverts will continue in mid-May. We expect this work to be finished in early June. What is the current state of the road? The road is now open to the public with long delays to be expected when works are happening. Due to the narrow road and the ongoing risk of rock fall, especially in rain events, signs have been installed at the start of the road to warn motorists. Lavericks Ridge Road Original damage Severe scouring and slips on Lavericks Ridge Road. What work was undertaken over the last few weeks? The final dropout repair has been competed. Crews have also finished upgrading the culverts. What still needs to be completed? More metal will need to be applied to the road before repairs are completed. Timeframe for completion The metalling is expected to be completed in late May. What is the current state of the road? The road is now open to the public. People should take care until all dropouts are repaired and the road metal has been spread. Le Bons Valley Road Original damage Significant scouring, slips and dropouts. Significant damage to the second bridge.
What work was undertaken over the last few weeks? Our contractors began working on the bridge repair. What still needs to be completed? No further works planned for this road. Timeframe for this work to be completed We expect that all the work on the bridge will be finished by mid-June. Current state of the road Fully open. Long Bay Original damage Various small and large slips the full length from Fisherman's Bay Road, with a large dropout above Paua Bay Road and various slips. What work was undertaken over the last few weeks? The ford repairs are now complete. What still needs to be completed? Long Bay will also require further river protection works. The road will also require re-metalling. Timeframe for completion Our contractor plans to start re-metalling the road next week. The river protection work will begin at the start of June. What is the current state of the road? Road is still closed at the Goughs Road intersection, with resident and farm only access. Stony BayOriginal damage Severe scouring and slips on the outer side of the harbour. Still to be completed Metal build-up on the bottom end of the road along with a couple of culvert replacements. Timeframe for completion Work is expected to be completed by the end of May. The current state of the road Fully open.
