What's On May 2014

Autumn has a quietness about it; the leaves glow calmly on the trees, then float gently down creating a natural carpet of orange and gold. I love walking into the apricot orchard when it's like this. The golden room where colour radiates - you feel a need to photograph this place, to attain that ultimate autumn shot. But, there is a melancholy to Autumn as well. We, like the trees, are starting to hunker down and most of us around here go into gathering mode. Hunting, gathering and storing. I know I have been anyway, and it’s through these simple chores in life you feel your humanity.
What a month it's been to look back on - a plane disappearing, ferries sinking and all that rain! At least whales can now swim safely in our southern ocean without being harpooned by Japanese. This is amazing and hard to believe it's true. And closer to home, we have enjoyed another fantastic Clyde Wine and Foods Festival on a most brilliant sunny Central day, so “hats off” to the organisers, Promote Dunstan, who continue to punch well above their weight in the event organising game.
May is fairly well jam-packed with entertainment to suit all tastes. Mothers Day is very close and the Central Otago Regional Orchestra is putting on a series of concerts in Queenstown, Wanaka and Alexandra especially for Mums. This could be something special to take your beloved mother along to. On the 21st of May, Northburn Station showcases another treat - with 'The Eastern' playing at 'The Shed'. Peruse the listings below and I'm sure you will find something to tempt you to venture out and about. Enjoy!
