Principal’s Welcome
|
 |
| |
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was a real joy to welcome students back to school this week. The energy and smiles on their faces were a wonderful reminder of how much our school community means to them. Seeing students reconnect with friends, teachers, and learning routines reminded us all, of the value of belonging, purpose and shared goals. We are looking forward to a term full of growth, challenge, and achievement.
School Development Day - Monday 21 July
Staff returned a day earlier for a full day of professional learning, focused on strengthening our capacity as educators and leaders:
-
Wellbeing Essentials - We explored personal and workplace wellbeing, with a focus on psychosocial safety in schools. This work continues with two follow-up staff sessions and Resilience First Aid Safety training.
-
Class Placement Procedure - I shared insights from other large schools and led a review of how we allocate students to classes. Subiaco PS has trialled several systems over time, most recently Class Solver. After careful staff discussion and voting, we’ve decided not to continue with this software. We’ll now work collaboratively to establish a transparent, educationally sound, and practical class placement process for 2026.
-
Sustainability - Thanks to Alice Brennan (Pre-primary), who led a session on embedding sustainability as a cross-curricular priority and revisiting our whole-school planning framework.
-
Elastik - Jefri Azlan introduced this online assessment platform that supports teachers in identifying learning gaps and tracking student progress.
A big thank you to our staff for their high level of engagement and commitment to ongoing professional growth.
Centre for Excellence in the Explicit Teaching of Literacy
We are proud to share that Subiaco PS has been selected as an intern school for the Centre for Excellence in the Explicit Teaching of Literacy for 2025/26. This is a significant achievement and an exciting opportunity to deepen our expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction.
Our team - Nicole Simons (Yr 3, Level 3 Classroom Teacher), Lia Moroni (Yr 1, Level 3 Classroom Teacher), Jessica Rawson (Yr 3, Level 2 Senior Teacher), and I will work closely with centre schools, receive expert coaching, and engage in professional learning to scale best practices in literacy across the school. We also undertake an action-research project to evaluate the impact of these teaching methods in our context. Our journey begins with the first training block from 28 - 30 July.
NAPLAN 2025 Reports
While NAPLAN reporting packages were expected in Week 1, we have not yet received them. I have contacted the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) and been assured they should arrive early next week. Once received, student reports will be checked, placed in sealed envelopes, and sent home with students. We will notify families as soon as they are ready to go home.
Looking Ahead
Term 3 promises to be a busy and exciting one, filled with learning, enrichment, and continued collaboration. Thank you for your ongoing support.
Warm regards,
Heather McNeil

Year 6 Drama Excursion
A group of Year 6 students were lucky enough to be invited to Bob Hawke College to participate in a drama workshop. All students involved had an amazing experience and enjoyed the improvisation activities as well as the opportunity to perform in front of an audience of their peers. These activities were run by the Student Arts Ambassadors from Bob Hawke.
Kiara - I really enjoyed the experience and would love to go there again.
Suniti - This was an awesome opportunity to learn how to perform in front of an audience. We had lots of fun.
Odette - It was an amazing chance for us to try our hand in the performing arts.
Darlene - It was a unique and inclusive experience for all the Year sixes that participated.
Rakshana - I had a really great time collaborating with other people and my friends in the many activities. I enjoyed the ABC improvisation activity the most.

Chaplain's Corner
Throughout Term 2, select students participated in Gardening club. We grew several vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, and lettuce.
Unfortunately, we did not get to enjoy what we grew in our very own garden, but we still managed to enjoy a range of vegetables. Students assisted in preparing vegetables and eating them with either classic glaze, oil, hummus, or all three options. The available options were either a hit or miss.
Please see linked photos of how our experience went. I know I enjoyed myself and I hope those who joined us did as well

Welcome Back – Term 3
We’d like to welcome all families back to school for Term 3 and hope that you all had an enjoyable two weeks without having to make school lunches and potentially enjoying some PJ days!
Get Involved With the P&C!
We Need You! 💛
At Subiaco Primary, we’re incredibly lucky to have a strong, caring school community — and so much of what makes our school great comes down to the efforts of our amazing volunteers.
As a government school, the majority of our upgrades rely on fundraising events and voluntary contributions. Unfortunately, our events don’t run themselves — they need people like you to bring them to life! We have such an amazing community of families and teachers who make Subi great. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, every bit helps, and it all has a ripple effect on how fantastic we can make our school for all our kids — now and in the future.
Getting involved with the P&C or one of our sub-committees is a great way to meet other families, support the school, and feel more connected to this wonderful community. You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team, and we’d love to have you on board! No experience needed — just a willingness to pitch in. 💪
👉 Find out more on our P&C page or email us at secretary@subiprimarypc.com.au.

Reminders
Birthday Celebrations
If your child’s birthday falls on a school day and you would like bring in a treat for the class, please consider healthy, nut free alternatives. Commercially bought, individual cup cakes are acceptable but due to our healthy eating policy we would rather parents not provide chocolates or lollies.
Student Absences
Enter an Attendance Note on Compass
A parent explanation is required for all student absences. Please enter this on Compass. Parent reminders will be emailed every Monday for any unexplained absences.
Updating School Records
If your address, telephone number or email address has changed, please contact the school office.
Publications Permission
Upon enrolment, parents decide whether to give consent for their child’s name, photo or work to be published in school newsletters, school related activities, promotional material for the Department of Education and articles for the West Australian and community newspapers. This consent continues for your child while enrolled at our school. If at any stage you want to change the permission status, then you will need to notify the office in writing.

Get those pesky old plastic items out of your home with our new plastics collection at the West Metro Recycling Centre! We’ll accept your damaged plastic tupperware containers, crates, tubs, buckets, washing baskets, bins and chopping boards for CLAW Environmental, who will shred and process the materials to be made into new products.
Please note that we cannot accept soft plastics (such as plastic bags or film), very rigid plastics (think CD cases), or any item with parts made of other materials such as metal or silicone. If in doubt, check our website, call the Recycling Hotline on 9384 6711, or ask a staff member on site. Putting only the correct items in this collection will help us ensure that CLAW can keep doing their incredible work as WA’s leading plastics recycler.
Volunteer at a site near you for National Tree Day 🌱
Each year, Australians from diverse communities and backgrounds come together in a powerful act of hope: planting a tree. Enter your postal code to find a site in your neighbourhood this 27 July.

Uniform Shop
|
 |
| |
Welcome back to all our students and especially our new children starting in chilly Term Three! It’s great to see so many children in their rain jackets and cosy fleecy track pants. Rain Jackets are available in sizes 6 through to 16. They are $50.
All sizes of polar fleece jackets, rain jackets, long sleeved gold polos and leggings are available if your child is needing some extra warm layers. In fleecy track pants all sizes are available except for size 8 which are due in next week.
Please order online at shop.subiprimarypc.com.au or visit the Uniform Shop on Tuesday or Thursday from 8.30 till 10.30am.
I am seeking more items for the preloved rack. If your child has outgrown some uniforms, please consider donating them so another child can enjoy wearing them!
Gold long sleeved polos, maroon track pants, skorts in larger sizes are all needed. Also backpacks in good condition would be appreciated. Please ensure the items have
been washed and suitable to pass on to another child.
I look forward to helping you with all your uniform needs.
