This popular workshop provided hands on learning in suturing and plastering tips and techniques. Dr Page was supported by two local hand therapists who were on hand (pun intended 😊) to share their knowledge and skills with attendees. Thank you to Handoc and our Statewide Stakeholder, WA Country Health Service at the Busselton Health Campus for providing the venue for our event. ![]() Blue skies for Collie meet and greet road trip It was a clear and crisp sunny day in Collie when the SWHPN Program Officer was out and about visiting local health professionals to introduce the network and promote upcoming events. A big thank you to the team at the Rural Clinical School in Collie for the warm welcome and tasty lunch. We look forward to hosting our networking sundowner event in Collie in July. Follow the link for all the details. ![]() Manjimup networking sundowner event wrap up On a cool and crisp evening in May, Manjimup health professionals came together for a networking sundowner event at Tall Timbers Brewery Manjimup. The intimate gathering provided an opportunity for locals to mingle and relax after work whilst enjoying some light refreshments and delicious canapes in front of a warm open fireplace. Rural Health West is seeking abstracts for the 2023 Aboriginal Health Conference to be held at the Esplanade Hotel by Rydges in Walyalup, Fremantle on the 18 and 19 November 2023. The theme for the Aboriginal Health Conference 2023 is: Dedication: the Story of our Elders. The conference will bring together health professionals from across rural WA, and provide the opportunity to learn from those who came before us. We will hear their stories and reflect on how we can move through the challenges faced by so many, and find a way forward together. Visit the website for all the details. ![]() Rights do not diminish with age Advocare is a leader in addressing the rights of older people and elder abuse. For more than 25 years, they have helped older Western Australians access the right supports, information and protections available to them. Advocare are a not-for-profit organisation, completely independent from aged care providers. Advocare provides confidential, unbiased and free support and services to older people receiving a Commonwealth-funded aged care package across the state. In the South West, the local team is available to provide advocacy support, as well as the new care finder program. From 1 July Advocare will extend their reach into the region through the delivery of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, delivering companionship and positive engagement to lonely and/or socially isolated older people. GP Registrar Workforce Planning and Prioritisation Consultation | Bunbury We invite you to be a part of the conversation about the workforce needs and training capacity for GP registrars in the Southwest. Basics in ICU training course | Bunbury The next Basic in ICU course in Bunbury will be on 8 and 9 September 2023. The Basic ICU course is run across 50 different countries and covers ICU related topics in the form of didactic lectures and skill station over 2 days. This course is recommended for all junior medical officers (RMO and registrars) pursuing a career in acute care medicine such as ICU, ED, trauma, anaesthesia, general medicine, GP anaesthesia, retrieval medicine etc. The aim of the course is to provide basic skill and knowledge in the management of critically ill patients and has been made as a mandatory course for CICM trainees registered post 2014.
