Faction Cross Country
Our annual Faction Cross Country was held on Friday 5 June with students from Years 1 to 6 taking to the track throughout the day and giving their very best effort. It was fantastic to see so many students participating, and challenging their limits.
There were some extremely impressive performances across all year levels. Every student who took place in the event should be proud of their effort they put into their run.
A massive congratulations to Klein for taking out the 2026 Faction Cross Country title. Their team effort and determination throughout the day helped secure a well deserved victory.
A big thank you to our teaching staff for preparing their students so well for the big day, and to our gardener, Vince, for his invaluable assistance in helping the event run smoothly.
I would also like to congratulate the group of students who participated in the Schools Sports State Cross Country event earlier this term. I was so proud to hear how well our students performed.

Our Year 3–6 Cross Country team proudly represented Subiaco Primary School at the City Beach Invitational Cross Country on Wednesday, 17 June. Competing against 10 other schools on a challenging new course featuring some very steep hills, our students showed outstanding determination and resilience throughout the day.
Subiaco finished an impressive 4th overall, with several students achieving top 10 finishes in their events. A special congratulations to Lucas K (L2), who finished 3rd in his event and proudly brought home a medal. Congratulations to all of our runners for their fantastic effort, sportsmanship and determination.

Winter Carnival & Lords Sports Day
|
 |
|
Our Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed a fantastic day of competition at this year's Winter Carnival. The carnival provided students with the opportunity to represent Subiaco Primary School while taking on local schools Highgate, Mount Hawthorn and Wembley Primary Schools across AFL, football, netball and modcrosse.
Reports flowed in of many exciting and closely contested matches throughout the day. Subiaco celebrated some outstanding achievements, winning the Modcrosse A division, Soccer A and B divisions, and Netball D division. Congratulations to all of our students for their efforts and the positive way they represented our school.
Some of our students also enjoyed a fantastic day at Lord's Recreation Centre, participating in a range of activities including dodgeball, basketball, indoor soccer and carnival games. Lots of fun was has throughout the day. A big thank you to the teachers who accompanied and supported the students throughout the day.
A big thank you to our staff, parent volunteers and organisers whose support helped make the day such a successful event.

The Social Justice Group (SJG) led the annual Food Drive back in Week 8 and we were blown away with all the donations!
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped and donated! We are pleased to report that we donated a whopping 698kgs of items, which is around 1,258 meals! An amazing effort!
Western Australians are going without food every day, and Foodbank WA is working hard to change that. So, thank you again for helping to make a difference in our community!

WA Ballet Performance
Orin S W (U3) recently performed with the WA Ballet as a child guest artist in the recent production of Dracula, performed at His Majesty’s Theatre during May. Orin was especially fortunate to perform on opening night.
His character was a child running away from nighttime vampires, so his costume was an old fashioned nightgown and nightcap.
What a wonderful way to experience the theatre and take part in a professional ballet performance.
Stableford Golf Championship
Braving the chilly 10°C conditions at Kwinana Golf Club, Kaela W (U6) delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing exceptional golfing skill and determination to win the Stableford Championship today.
She was proud to represent Subaico Primary School.
Calisthenics Interstate Championships
On Saturday, 20 June, Levia S (L2) represented the Western Australia State Team Sub Junior Tier 2 at the Calisthenics Interstate Challenge 2026, held in Perth, competing against South Australia. After 6 months of preparation, the WA Sub Junior team won the Interstate Challenge Championship.
Selection for the State Team is a significant achievement in itself, and Levia demonstrated exceptional commitment throughout the preparation period. For the past six months, she attended State Team training every Sunday, dedicating more than six hours weekly in addition to her regular club training and school commitments. We are incredibly proud of her dedication, teamwork, and perseverance.

AusAlert Warning System
|
 |
| |
The Australian Government is launching AusAlert, a new national warning system that sends emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.
AusAlert is a fast and reliable way to help keep Australians informed so they can act quickly during local and national disasters. These could be natural hazards like bushfires, floods and cyclones, as well as security threats or public health emergencies.
AusAlert will send messages regarding emergency events to all Australians on their mobile devices, including:
-
phones
-
tablets
-
smart watches
-
safety watches
-
vehicle devices.
AusAlert will behave differently to standard text messaging. It includes 2 alert levels, both featuring a unique siren ringtone and a message that appears on device screens.
Critical alert
The critical alert is an intrusive alert that overrides silent and do not disturb settings. It is used only when there is an imminent threat to life and property. Users cannot opt out.
Priority alert
The priority alert does not override silent and do not disturb settings. It is sent when advice is required on potential events. Users can opt out of this alert by accessing notifications in their device settings.
Before AusAlert is ready to use in October 2026, local and national testing is needed so all Australians know what an AusAlert will look and sound like. A national test will be held on Monday 27 July 2026 at 12.00pm AWST.
All compatible mobile devices across Australia will receive a test alert on this day.As testing will occur during school hours, it is important that staff, students, parents and carers are aware of and prepared for the test.
More information can be found at www.ausalert.gov.au/community-resources/children-teens#ausalert-information-for-schools
