Welcome to the November newsletter

Dear

The temperature may be colder on campus, but we are warming up with the excitement of our December graduation events coming up next month. We eagerly look forward to celebrating our latest alumni members and welcoming them to our community.

We are also proud to update you on the latest developments from our Leeds City Campus, which opened for teaching recently. You can read more about how our new campus is full of Collaborative Active Teaching Spaces and hear the views from the Deputy Leader of Leeds City Council about inclusive growth.

Christmas Carol Service

We are very much looking forward to welcoming alumni and former staff to our Carol Service at our Main Campus in Horsforth on Monday 2 December at 7.00pm.

There will be performances from the Leeds Trinity University Chapel Choir and Mount St Mary’s Catholic High School, and the service will be followed by complimentary mulled wine and mince pies.

If you haven't yet booked your place you can still do so here.

Alumni star again for Journalism and Media Week

Earlier in the month, we had a brilliant week full of inspirational speakers for Journalism and Media Week.

In addition to individual sessions, we had three alumni panels including specialists in radio, TV and a mixture of journalism and media graduates sharing their inspirational success stories.

A huge thank you to all those who kindly returned to campus to share their wisdom and top tips.

Psychology Week alumni panel

Journalism and Media Week wasn't the only big event happening in early November, as we were also proud to support Psychology Week.

We were delighted to welcome back an alumni panel that spoke to current students about possible career paths and how best to utilise the opportunities available to them.

Adele looking to re-connect

Adele Spencer (Wells) started at Leeds Trinity in 1978 and is looking to make contact with any Music students that might know her from this era.

If you knew Adele and would like to make contact, she would be very pleased for you to email her.

Adele was taught by Paul Shepherd (pictured), who was Head of Music during her time as a student.

Featured alumni – Michelle Hall

This month we were delighted to hear from Michelle Hall (MA Family Support, 2021), updating us on her latest achievements.

Michelle is a PhD researcher in her final year at Leeds Trinity. Earlier this month she attended a parliamentary reception with the charity Kinship. She spoke about her lived experience as a kinship carer and her research to MPs, Lords, and prominent civil servants and stakeholders.

Special guardianship is a form of kinship care that lasts until a child is eighteen years of age. This is when a family member steps up to look after a child when the parents are no longer able to do so. Michelle's research explores the lived experience that special guardians have with parental contact.

Speeches were given by the Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson MP and Munira Wilson MP, the Liberal Democrats' Education Spokesperson, as well as the CEO of Kinship Dr Lucy Peake.

Michelle is an active campaigner for Kinship and a member of their advisory group, feeding into policy and the vision and ethos of the charity. Read Michelle's alumni profile.
