2023 Samsung GRO Call for Proposals

The 2023 Samsung GRO Program is calling for research proposals in the following areas: Machine Intelligence, Quantum Computing, New Computing, New Memory, Semiconductor Process, Semiconductor Equipment, Semiconductor Materials, 6G Communication, Mobile Solution, Future Mobility, and Environmental Technology for Sustainability.

Please contact Lawrence Lau at the Industry Alliances & Commercialization department (lalau@chapman.edu) for more information and details on how to apply. The internal submission deadline is August 13, 2023.

 

New National Science Foundation (NSF) Program

NSF launched a new $30 million program Assessing and Predicting Technology Outcomes that will fund research to evaluate the effectiveness of research and development investments and create models and information for decision-makers to optimize investments and advance U.S. competitiveness in the long term. Proposals are due October 30, 2023.

 

Event! Office of Research Summer Open House for Staff and Administrators 

Mark your calendars, the Office of Research is holding our first open house of 2023 for staff and administrators! Come see our building, meet our staff, pop-in to some info sessions, and win some fun prizes! A second open house for faculty will be scheduled in fall 2023.

 

Suspension of NSF Awards

The National Science Foundation’s Office of Inspector General reported in its most recent semiannual report to Congress that NSF Suspends 18 Awards, Receives Repayments Related to Foreign Ties, Research Misconduct. Failing to report foreign support or connections to the NSF resulted in award suspensions and other costly repercussions.

CHOC Research Day 2023

CHOC Research Day returns on Wednesday, November 15th. CHOC would like to invite Chapman faculty engaged in pediatric research to submit their abstracts for the poster exhibit at this event. This segment of the day will be in-person. For more information please email officeofresearch@chapman.edu.

  • Surya Nauli received an Administrative Supplement from the National Institutes of Health for the project titled “The role of ciliary melanin-concentrating hormone receptors in Alzheimer's disease”. 
  • Aaron Schurger received an incoming subaward from Reed College under the prime award from the Templeton World Charity Foundation entitled “Triangulating Neural Correlates of Consciousness”. 
  • Dede Tete received an award from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities for the project titled “Social and Environmental Determinants of Breast Cancer Survivorship: The Black Breast Cancer Survivors Intervention”. 
  • Allegra Liberman-Martin received the Cottrell Scholar Award from the Research Corporation for Science Advancement  for the project titled “Broadening Applications of Weakly Coordinating Triflimidate Anions in Main Group Chemistry and Catalysis”.
  • Patricia Lopes received an award from the NSF for the project titled “RUI:OSIB: The effects of high disease risk on uninfected animals”. 
  • Jerry LaRue received an award from the NSF for the project titled “CDS&E: Collaborative Research: Theory-infused Neural Network (TinNet) for Nonadiabatic Molecular Simulations”.
