Wastewater treatment plant fire - Q & AsThe 1 November fire at the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant was one of the biggest in the city for several years and its impacts could be felt for a long time. We've published a Newsline article where we answer some of your questions around our progress, how the plant is now operating, and next steps. First aerator installedWe have installed the first aerator on the oxidation pond as a trial to see if the oxygen that it pumps through the water can help decrease the odour levels. We're monitoring the results closely. If the trial is successful we plan to place more aerators in the first oxidation pond, and stop treating the water with hydrogen peroxide - a compound that naturally breaks down into water and oxygen - before it's discharged into the ponds. Stay updatedWe want everyone to be able to stay updated on our response and recovery from the treatment plant fire, and have created ccc.govt.nz/wastewaterfire so that we can regularly share new information with you. If you have any questions, or would like further information on the project, please call us on 03 941 8999 or 0800 800 169 or email wastewater@ccc.govt.nz Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding as we continue to work on minimising the unpleasant smells after the fire. We’ll be in touch again soon. You received this email because you are subscribed to updates from Christchurch City Council. |
