BIG BOFA WEEKEND IN LAUNCESTON

The Launceston BOFA Film Festival starts this weekend and what a line-up!

BOFA at Launceston’s Harvest Market
(Saturday 30th April)

Enjoy a FREE music festival (2.30-5.30pm) under marquees (safe from the Tassie weather) to hear the Tasmanian Leather Orchestra, featuring the incredible leather (yes leather!) instruments of the late great artist, Gary Greenwood; jig away to the heart-pumping trad Irish Music quartet the “KHG Trio” with Special Guest Leueen Morgan (Kearney, Higgins & Gleeson), then chill with the sounds of the  Geraldine Gray Jazz Quartet. Rascal Robots Art Space and Interweave Arts will keep your kids happy with mask painting, giant bubbles, improvised music and unexpected things with paper balloons! Food and beverage stalls will  offer a glass of something, a bite to eat so you can connect with friends while the kids have some FREE fun!

Sponsored by WD Booth Trust

BOFA at Tramsheds Theatre, Inveresk Precinct
(Saturday 30 April)

Join us for the Awards presentation for the First Nation Stories Short Film at 4.30pm. Entry is FREE to see and hear the winners who will be Zooming in from around Australia. All the short films will be screened continuously for FREE as well at the QVMAG auditorium at Inveresk until 30 May.

On Saturday night the award winning Alick and Albert film will also play at the Tramsheds Theatre, Inveresk Precinct. Alick Tipoti is a famous Torres Strait Island artist who convinces Prince Albert of Monaco to visit him at Badu Island and help them face threats from rising sea levels and pollution. Charming, beautiful, and intensely thought-provoking.

BOFA at Peppers Silo Hotel
(Sunday 1 May)

Foodies can celebrate Launceston’s title as the newest UNESCO City of Gastronomy (that’s food and wine to you) with a conference at Peppers Silo Hotel to hear from other Creative Cities of Gastronomy around the world and then brainstorm how to make the most of this title. At lunchtime, Grain at the Silos restaurant proves the point with a matched local food and wine long lunch.
