Our Senior Prom 2023 Winners (both adopted) are ready to pass the crown !
Join us on Saturday, April 13th from 12:00 to 5:00 PM for our Senior Prom! This adoption event, held at our beautiful, home-like sanctuary at 34 Hamilton Avenue in Oyster Bay, features a festive atmosphere, and highlights our Seniors for Seniors program (where we cover the reasonable future medical expenses at participating veterinarians for a senior cat 8 years old or older adopted by an approved senior citizen). Cats of all ages will be up for adoption. The health and mental benefits of having animals as companions are well known. The Patricia H. Ladew Foundation's Seniors for Seniors program alleviates some of the worries that older folks may have when adopting an older animal -- affording the medical care and what happens to the cat if something happens to them?
Our Seniors for Seniors program pays for the medical care, alleviating the financial burden associated with senior kitties and if something happens to the adopter, the kitty can safely return to us for care. Dr. Susan's mom, Lillian, and her senior kitty, Barney Not looking to adopt? All are welcome to attend our Senior Prom for a tour (and snuggles from kitties!) In addition to tours, visitors may wish to sponsor a cat to help us continue to provide housing and medical care for cats in our care. Sponsors will receive a hand-painted ornament with your sponsoree's name (or your own cat's name if preferred). This isn’t just a real prom — it’s a celebration of love, compassion, and the joy that senior cats bring. Let the whiskers twirl, the tails sway, and the hearts melt at our Senior Prom! Help us Name the King and Queen of our Senior Prom! The nominees for King are:Pudgie: Pudgie survived a recent house fire in Hicksville. This adorable guy has a heart murmur but needs no medication at this time. Pudgie feels he should be King because he remains steady even in the face of catastrophy, which is important if you're King. Tom The Red: Tom The Red was relinquished to Animal Care Centers when his owners moved to a non-pet-friendly apartment. When he arrived, he had a condition known as entropion, where his eyelashes constantly rubbed against his corneas. He has since had surgery and is doing great. Tom feels he should be King because he is a symbol of resilience and perseverance. Tom the Grey: Tom was originally found as a stray and brought to Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. Tom was hyperthyroid when he arrived but his thyroid is under control now with medication. Tom feels he would be a great King because he knows how to navigate the challenges of health care and homelessness. The nominees for Queen are:Spice: One of Spice's humans died and the other went into a nursing home. Spice has no medical issues and is a very sweet and gentle girl, who is a little shy. Spice feels she brings a unique story and perspective to the prom, representing not just glamour and popularity, but also depth and empathy. Skittles: Skittles came from a hoarding situation. Skittles feels she should be Queen because although she values individual attention, she also understands that a Queen has to be adaptable to diverse environments. While Skittles appreciates the importance of shared spaces, deep down she really wants to be the only Queen in her castle. Dakota: Dakota was rescued as a kitten from Animal Care Centers. She and her sister Tess were adopted, but were returned 7 years later by their owner. Dakota has no health issues and feels she should be Queen because she rose above abandonment and rejection and came out even stronger. Now that you've met the nominees, it's time to vote!
