Summer licensing pause

Potential licence applicants should note that upcoming licence applications need to be lodged by 5pm on Friday 4 November 2022 to avoid Earth Resources Regulation's annual 'pause' on accepting applications during the festive holiday period.

Applications may be submitted during this period but will not progress until Monday 9 January 2023.

The pause period is intended to provide fair and reasonable opportunities for community members to view advertisements and make submissions about licence applications during this busy time of year when such things such things may often be overlooked.

For more information or to discuss your situation, please contact our Licensing Team via licensing.err@ecodev.vic.gov.au.

Testing the new RMSVIC system

We're looking for portal and other external users to test the legislative report module of our new resource management system (RMSVIC).

The testing will take 1-2 hours and can be done remotely in your own time over a two-week period towards the end of November. Your participation will help improve and shape the system for easier use in the future.

Please email expressions of interest to rmsvic@ecodev.vic.gov.au.

Election caretaker period

With the next state election approaching, caretaker conventions will come into force at 6pm on 1 November 2022 and apply until after the election is decided.

During the caretaker period, Earth Resources Regulation expects most of our licensing, compliance and other day-to-day business activities to proceed as usual. Operators should however note that licence decisions on coal-related proposals will be paused.

If you have concerns or questions about how this might impact your dealings with us, please email ERRfeedback@ecodev.vic.gov.au.

Recruiting to meet demand

We are recruiting 10 new positions to boost our capacity to process an increase in minerals licence applications.

The positions are being funded by a $1.2 million Treasurer’s Advance and are in the final stages of recruitment.

Victoria’s minerals exploration expenditure for the last financial year is the highest on record at $221.2 million, demonstrating the level of activity taking place.
