CHAP TEAM NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 2022

CHAP NEWS

Dr Sonia Hines in Adelaide

We are pleased to have Dr Sonia Hines, Director of the Mparntwe Centre for Evidence in Health, Flinders University, located in Alice Springs come to visit our team during the last week in November to participate in our last Systematic Review Club Meeting face to face.

Welcome to Australia Ora

We welcomed our PhD student from Thailand, Ms Ora Suebkinorn to Australia by introducing her to some of Australia's iconic animals at Cleland Wildlife Park. Ora has also been able to explore rural South Australia whilst working on our projects in Pinnaroo and Pt Lincoln.

Moving Up in Flinders

We are getting ready to move from level 2 in the Sturt North building to level 3 where you will find us from mid-November with the rest of the Caring Future Institute team. We are looking forward to making the most of this interim space until the new Health & Medical Research Building is ready in 2024.

Data Linkage and Evaluation of Outcomes

Our Data Manager, Mr Jon Foote has been busy cleaning our data over the past few months. We now have our baseline data 90% cleaned with preliminary analyses in progress and the second data extraction (intervention data) expected in early November. Watch this space for outcomes to be shared.

HEART NEWS

Cardiac Patients Wanted for Workshops

The first couple of Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) Especially for Women (CREW) and CR for All (CR4ALL) workshops have been held in Port Lincoln on the 20th October and the Barossa on 28th October. We have upcoming workshops in Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier, Whyalla and Wallaroo before the end of the year. We are looking for introductions to patients who have completed, or are undergoing CR, and are either female, or of lower socioeconomic status. If you are a clinician working in CR and would like to refer someone, or just find out more about these projects, please email tania.marin@flinders.edu.au.

CATCH web (Online CR) Modules

CATCH web can further support your CR patients enrolled in CATCH telephone or face-to-face programs to provide further education on the CR Quality Indicators including:
"Assessment and goals… Fighting back" - the 6-minute walk test won’t help your patient’s waistline but changing their diet will. Patients can access healthy recipes in Module 4 and "Education and self-management… If it’s going to be…" - your patient’s heart may be in the right place but do they know what makes it happy? Module 7 has a video that can help your patients learn how to reduce their risk of heart disease by managing their risk factors.
If you would like access to CATCH web or have any questions, please email us.

Her Heart Risk Assessment Tool

Her Heart have a 10 minute online Heart Risk Assessment Tool that can be used to identify when a person is at risk and when it's time to see the GP.  You can now sign up here to become a member of Her Heart which will provide you with access to their online community, monthly updates and heaps of other resources.
