Central Otago District Arts Trust

Hello

What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - February

Emma Rankin performing with Matt Joe Gow at Penny Black - February 26th 2023.

Music Victoria Award winner Matt Joe Gow is bringing his distinctive brand of Americana music to Cromwell, for his only Central Otago show of his summer tour, in an afternoon session at Penny Black in the Heritage Precinct Cromwell. The show will be intimate and acoustic and will find Matt playing tracks across his entire career plus a few new ones. He will be joined by talented self-made rocker and Cromwell local Emma Rankin.

Emma grew up in Cromwell and started writing songs when she was 13 shortly followed by learning guitar from Pete Stevenson who encouraged her writing. Now, 19 years later, she has written over 100 songs, released 2 EP's, 1 album, and is due to celebrate the release of her second album "ctrl+alt+delete" very soon. All are available on your usual streaming services. The collection of songs is a mixture of things that have happened to her over the past 5 years. Through recording these songs, Emma has been able to process past trauma as well as celebrate her recent joys and achievements of the last 2 years. The process has been a total mind reset for her - hence the title. Emma recorded and produced the album herself at home and is a fully independent artist. You can find her gigging around Central with her partner Robbie as 'The Dirty Money Duo'. Make sure you get along to Penny Black on Sunday the 26th of February from 1pm. The show is sponsored by Radio Central and Arts Central, entry is free, and everyone is welcome.
