Home State Reporting Guidelines
Selecting the correct Home State is essential when reporting premiums through SLIP+ for States. Under the NRRA, the Home State is generally: - The state where the insured maintains its principal place of business/residence
- If 100 percent of the insured risk is located outside that state, the state with the greatest percentage of taxable premium allocated.
Affiliated groups:
When an insurance contract covers multiple insureds within an affiliated group, select the Home State of the group member associated with the largest percentage of premium under the policy. Multi-State Risks:
For policies with multi-state exposure, reporting requirements vary depending on whether the insureds are affiliated: Affiliated insureds: Report the master policy and all related certificates to the Home State of the master policy. Non-affiliated insureds: Report premium for each certificate in the state where the individual risk is located.
U.S. Premium Reporting Requirements
When reporting premium, only the premium attributable to risks located within the United States should be reported. Premium associated with risks outside the United States is considered non-U.S. premium and should not be included in premium reported through SLIP+ for States.
For policies covering both U.S. and non-U.S. exposures, premium should be allocated based on the location of the insured risk before filing. Example: If a policy has a total premium of $100,000 and covers risks in both U.S. and non-U.S. locations, with $70,000 attributable to U.S. risks and $30,000 attributable to non-U.S. risks, only the $70,000 U.S. premium should be reported. The remaining $30,000 should not be included in the reported premium. Accurate premium allocation helps reduce documentation requests and filing corrections.
