That's a wrap on 2022! Season's Greetings from WPIIt's time to sign off for 2022. On behalf of the WPI team, I would like to wish you, and those close to you, all the best for the festive season and a happy and healthy New Year. It has been a very busy year for us all. At WPI we celebrated the milestone of our 25th Anniversary and launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to deliver 25 new homes by 2025. I am pleased to say we are well on the way to achieving this goal. We have delivered 14 new homes this year, have five on which construction is near complete, and have nine that are fully funded and will be delivered in 2024. Excitingly there are 20 more in the pipeline. We are thrilled to be helping so many women and children to escape chronic housing insecurity. We want to thank all of those who supported us in 2022. We couldn't do our work without you. Please read on for some final updates for the year, and of course, please consider a contribution to our end of year appeal. Stay safe across the holidays and beyond. We look forward to our paths crossing in 2023. Regards The First 9 of our 25 Women's Property Initiatives 25 Homes campaign is finishing the year on a very positive note, with 9 of our 25 homes now funded. These homes will provide for vulnerable women & children in regional Victoria. We would like to thank everyone who donated to, and supported WPI’s mid-year campaign & 25th Anniversary. Every dollar counts, and the securing of these homes would not have been possible without all of your contributions. The work continues and this festive season you can help us in securing our 10th home by donating this December. Mornington Peninsula Project We are getting really close to completion on our five new 2 bedroom homes on the Mornington Peninsula. Part of a bigger development, these homes will help to address the need for secure and affordable homes for women and children in the region. With construction in its final stages, and continuing into January, we hope to have tenants move in by March 2023. We have been working on a partnership which would also see these homes being provided completely furnished for families who really deserve a new beginning! Stay tuned. Gift Cards Donated by Built Our partner, Built, has once again donated gift cards for our tenants on behalf of their clients. To say this is an enthusiastically received arrival for our women and families is an understatement. Some of our families find it hard to afford some of the things we associate with this time of year, that many of us take for granted. We have heard reports already of the funds being spent on Christmas trees, presents and special food for the holidays. Thanks Built!
There's still time to make a festive season donation A secure roof overhead during the festive season is something most of us take for granted. But for the thousands of women and children experiencing housing crisis, a secure home would be a dream come true. WPI has a goal to deliver 25 new homes by 2025. We are excited to have secured the first nine of these on which construction will begin in 2023, but we still have a long way to go. Your donation will change the lives of women like our tenant, Renee, who along with her six children, lived in limbo for almost eight years. After applying for more than 80 houses, they became homeless and lived with her parents for a while (part of the time pitching a tent in the back yard). When they were offered transitional housing, it was a huge relief, but with three bedrooms for seven of them, life was very difficult. Four of Renee’s children, whose ages range from 10 – 20, have special needs. Renee slept on the couch so that each of the children had their own bed, and that was the situation for three years. Living in a WPI home has completely transformed the lives of Renee and her children. “Life is so much calmer and I feel a sense of peace. This home is so much bigger and has space for all of us. The kids feel settled and I have transitioned the younger ones to homes schooling because they were having a very hard time at school. Now they are thriving and much less anxious. I am so grateful just to know I don’t have to worry about where we are going to live or having to move. We wake up in a beautiful house and we feel safe.”
