CALL FOR ENTRIES!

We at the Central Otago District Arts Trust (CODAT) invite all New Zealand artists over the age of 18 to enter our second biennial art competition. The Arts Gold Awards 2013, previously known as the Central Otago Art Awards has been renamed to avoid confusion with some other Central Otago Awards. By presenting The Arts Gold Awards, CODAT encourages the arts community to pursue excellence and help us grow the visual arts to be valued and vital to our region.
We hope to attract contemporary works which will appeal to both a local and national audience. By presenting art from emerging and established New Zealand artists, CODAT confirms its mission to challenge, inspire and to involve more people in the arts, and to expand horizons for our artists and viewers.
"This time we are allowing video art entries for the first time. We say we want to attract new and interesting work and if we exclude video works, I don’t believe we are moving with the times”, says arts coordinator Maxine Williams.
This year’s judges are Dunedin Public Art Gallery Director Cam McCracken and Christchurch Art Gallery curator Felicity Milburn and it is a fantastic opportunity for artists to have their work scrutinised by these eminent art experts.
“Entries close on the 20th of September so artists have up to three months to work hard and produce something amazing” says Maxine.
The winner of the Art Excellence Award will receive $5000 and the Central Otago Artist Award will receive $2000. Both of these awards will be announced by the judges at
Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery in Alexandra on the 25th of October at the VIP opening evening and the subsequent Arts Gold Awards exhibition will run from the 26th October until 7th December. At the close of the exhibition, the Viewers’ Choice Award winner, determined by votes submitted both at the exhibition and via the online gallery, will be presented with the $1000 award. All those who vote for the Viewers' Choice Award will go into a draw to win a prize pack of delicious Central Otago Wine.
