Preparing for a new yearStarting back at school can be an anxious time for parents, carers and children. For families living with T1D it presents added challenges and considerations. The Diabetes in Schools program have provided a checklist that might come in handy for you. School management plansThe new school year is just around the corner and by now your child's school should have a copy of their updated Diabetes Management Plan. This is the time to touch base with the school and make sure they understand the plan and to answer any questions. NovoRapid urgent product defect alertWe have been advised by Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of NovoRapid, that some circulating NovoRapid cartridges may have small circular non-penetrating cracks on the outer surface. Importantly, insulin pens will not function if loaded with cracked cartridges. Document Review - we need your help!Want a chance to help ensure documents produced by the PCH Diabetes Clinic are relevant and usable for children and families? This is your chance. We are looking for 5-10 parents to help review guidelines for using flexible insulin therapy (manual daily injections). Oral insulin studyOur researchers would like to find out whether oral insulin is useful in type 1 diabetes management and is safe for use in individuals with T1D. We are looking for participants aged 16 – 25 years, who have been living with T1D for more than 1 year and have HbA1c less than or equal to 9.0%, to be involved in the 12-week study. Insulin and Abatacept trialWe are looking for participants aged 6-21 years, who've been diagnosed with T1D in the last 100 days, to take part in the Intranasal and Abatacept (IAA) Trial. The trial is testing whether the combination of two safe disease-modifying therapies slow down the immune attack on the insulin-producing (beta) cells. Become a research buddyEver wanted to be involved in type 1 diabetes research studies, but didn't know how to get started or never had time before but now do? We are looking for children, parents, siblings and grandparents who are interested in being a Research Buddy.
