We hope everyone is having a wonderful semester! 

As registration approaches, here are a few reminders: 

  • Office Hours are offered every day (M-F)! 
  • No appointment is necessary!

       Dr. Arleen Bejerano: Doti Hall 211, 1-4 PM Tues and Fri

       Dr. Andrea Weber: Doti Hall 203, 12:30-2:30 PM Tues and Thurs

  • For both COM and SCC majors, the Research Methods requirement can be fulfilled by either COM 295 OR SCC 295 (COM 295 is offered this summer!).
  • COM 101 (Public Speaking) is now COM 102.

School of Communication Experience Day

Wednesday, April 10th from 2-4 PM on Memorial Lawn

Come join the School of Communication for a day filled with exciting games, SoC swag, food, and talks with students and professors from our programs. At this fair-like event, students will be able to ask questions and receive information about all that the School of Communication offers. 

Come with your ears open and an empty stomach!

Trying to figure out your schedule for next semester? 

Registration opens in mid-April! You can always stop by office hours, but why not get free pizza AND free advice!

Students can receive advising help from program advisors AND SoC Student Advisory Board Members.

Segerstrom Center: Paid Summer Guest Services Internship

The Guest Services department works to ensure that all service and messaging aspects of the public’s interaction with the company align with our mission of providing a world-class attendance experience.  The department encompasses both the ticketing services and audience services departments. 

To apply, students should visit www.scfta.org/interns. Deadline to apply is Friday, April 26th.

HR Compensation Analyst Intern at Pacific Dental Services

"Students would be working with Pacific Dental Services (Alumni Employer Partner- CEO- Stephen Thorne) Compensation Team and re-evaluating our current incentive bonus structure for our Operation Managers. They would be looking at ways to potentially better communicate how to achieve those bonus incentives once they have analyzed current state and the financial information required to achieve bonuses"

Artists of the Industry are a full-service creative agency with a focus on interactive solutions looking to fill a Communications and Marketing Internship position.

They are flexible with your school schedule and the internship would be 2 days a week in LA with some remote work time.

OC Debate League Paid & Volunteer Opportunities

The Orange County Debate League and New England Academy of Speech and Debate are looking for interested candidates for paid and volunteer opportunities to teach speech and debate to students in grades 5 to 12. 

The OC Debate League is a 5013c non-profit. Volunteers can earn community service hours and work in a variety of functions (debate judging, tournament tabulations, data entry, etc.) for a good cause. 

New England Academy (or NEA) is an after-school center operating at its own home site and public and private schools across southern California.  NEA is a member of the OC Debate League, and part-time paid positions as instructors and debate judges are available. Paid training will be offered to selected candidates.

Scholarship Opportunities

The 2019 Sinclair Broadcast Group Diversity Scholarship competition is now accepting applications:

The Scholarship is open to: 

  •  Current sophomores and juniors
  •  Must be attending a 4-year college or university in California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon or Washington state...OR...whose permanent residence is within one of those states.
  • They can major in any subject. But applicants must be pursuing a career in TV / digital journalism or marketing.
