Central Otago District Arts Trust

Hello

What's on in Central Otago - March

The Trust launched a brand new project in February - Arts on the Clutha Gold Trail. Last year a collection of people from the Teviot Community and the Arts Trust Coordinator met to discuss the possibility of holding an event similar to Arts on the Rail Trail in the Teviot Valley - as a result, we have produced an introductory flier advertising mini-exhibitions in venues throughout Roxburgh and surrounds. If the project is a success we will look at expanding it in 2019.

If you plan to be in or around Omakau this week go along to the Omakau School Hall and take a look at some of the great artworks being produced by some talented young people from the Omakau, Poolburn and Maniototo areas. The Youth Art Exhibition is on until the 12th March, entry is free and everyone is welcome.

If you haven't already, it is worth popping into Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery to view 'Rediscover Elizabeth Stevens', the largest ever exhibition of Elizabeth Stevens paintings showcasing her 40-year career from the mid-1960’s to early 2000s’. Over 65 paintings have been drawn from public and private collections throughout New Zealand and Australia for this show. Also on at Central Stories is an exhibition of recent works by renowned Bannockburn artist Maurice Middleditch.

The Clyde Wine and Food Festival is happening on Sunday, April the 1st this year. The annual festival is Central Otago's largest celebration of locally produced wines with more than 20 wine producers and as many food and general market stall holders expected to participate. There will be live music, children’s entertainment, and a cash and carry Art Exhibition organised by the Central Otago Art Society.

It was exciting to read in the latest Cromwell and Districts Promotions Group newsletter that they are hoping to install public art/ seating along the greenways in the area. I am a huge fan of public art and the ability it has to enhance our environment and help foster community pride. I wish the group every success in securing the funding needed for this fantastic idea.

Enjoy everything on offer in the arts in Central Otago and have a happy and safe Easter.
