Farewell from the Class of 2026
AJ, Vanessa & Wren
We are leaving at the age
where wheaty seedheads tilt in windlight,
and the land was only ever lent to us for afternoons:
for scraped knees, for long grass that hid our shoes,
for shouting names across fields until they dissolved into dusk.
We stagger through a June we don’t quite yet belong to,
pollen clinging to our cheeks as proof we were outside at all.
And still, before we go
Let us run in fields and fear the dark together,
Let us sit too long on swings that squeak in insect rhythm,
Returning to ground only when the streetlights decide we’re done.
Let us forgo dignity for silly hats and harmonicas,
For s’mores collapsing warm between our fingers,
For laughter so loud it startles birds from trees.
Because soon enough
We will learn
The work of the world is common as mud,
packed into the ridges of soles,
carried into kitchens, onto floors, into beds,
Following us home no matter how carefully we wipe our feet.
Soon enough, we will become people
who measure their lives in business days,
who answer emails before our own thoughts,
wearing sleeplessness like a medal pinned crooked to the chest.
But for now, we are still young enough
to believe something is breathing in the cellar,
to stand at the top of basement stairs and call down names just to hear them come back.
Young enough to sleep away from the bed’s edge,
Lest the monsters beneath choose to strike.
There are still school hallways in our ribs,
lockers snapping shut like teeth.
Still bus windows dragged with rain,
faces stretched thin behind glass
to which we used to press our foreheads.
This age will fade in the rearview,
Stationary as we pull away:
No clean break but a loosening
shoelaces pooling by the front door,
like a life jacket unclipped at the mouth of fast water
without knowing if the current is kind.
So if the future comes for us suddenly,
Let it find us with pockets full of nothing we meant to keep:
Glass worn by the sea, addressed but unsent letters,
The smell of whiteboard markers and Sage food,
Each other’s laughter lodges stubbornly in our bones.
Let it find us suspended in old photographs,
Caught forever in the careless light of seventeen,
Before we learned how quickly a moment turns into a memory.
And wherever we go next,
Into cities loud with traffic,
Dorm rooms and day jobs,
May we remember this strange and tender season of our lives:
Our big loves and small hungers,
How we once believed every goodbye
Would still somehow end in tomorrow.
Even now, as we are living this moment,
It is already leaving us for memory.
But still, what a miraculous thing it was
To have been young together at all.

We are excited to share some final Crofton Falcons results from the Senior School!
Our varsity golf team represented CHS at the 2026 Golf Provincial Championships in Langley from May 1–3, competing against top teams from across the province and finishing an impressive 5th overall. A special congratulations to Cassie, Grade 10, who placed first overall in the girls’ individual category!
In track and field, our Senior School athletes also had a strong showing at the 2026 Provincial Championships in Langley from May 4–6. Competitors across grades achieved several personal bests, the Grade 8 4x100m relay teams earned silver and bronze medals, and the junior 4x100m team brought home silver, among many other standout performances!

Year-End Celebration Wrap-Up & Thanks

Last Friday, the Crofton House community gathered to celebrate the close of another memorable and successful school year. Students, parents, siblings, and staff enjoyed a lively BBQ featuring sweet treats, performances by our talented students, engaging games and crafts, and plenty of fun photos in front of the sparkling CHS backdrop.
A sincere thank you to our event chairs, Lynn Jin, Claire May, and Tina Ye, for their leadership and dedication. We also extend our appreciation to all our parent volunteers who helped out, our Community Dining partner SAGE Dining, and the CHS facilities team for helping make this wonderful celebration possible. See you next year!
A Blooming Afternoon at VanDusen Botanical Garden

On May 24, Crofton House alumnae and current CHS families gathered at VanDusen Botanical Garden for a vibrant and inspiring afternoon celebrating the artistry of flowers. Against the backdrop of beautiful summer weather, attendees enjoyed learning about floral design while gaining behind-the-scenes insights from former CHS parent and Fleurs de Villes founder Tina Barkley. In collaboration with CHS alumnae, this event provided a wonderful opportunity for current families and alumnae to connect, explore the stunning floral installations, and enjoy the gardens in full bloom.
A heartfelt thank you to the CHS Alumnae Association, especially Alison Sagar '05, for all the hard work putting this event together, and to Tina Barkley for sharing her expertise and passion. We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate and strengthen connections among CHS alumnae and current families.
And That’s a Wrap! CHS Community Book Club

The final book club meeting of the school year took place on Wednesday, May 27, bringing together current parents and alumnae for an engaging discussion of All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. The group enjoyed a thoughtful exchange of ideas, exploring the novel’s complex characters, themes, and storytelling through a variety of perspectives. A special thank you to event chair and past CHS parent Ching Chen, and to everyone who participated throughout the year in creating a welcoming space for connection, conversation, and a shared love of reading.
Save the Date! The next summer-themed Book Club meeting is on September 23 at 9:30 am. The book theme is anything beach-related, whether a ‘beach read’ or a book set at the beach! More information will be shared later this summer.
Note: If you are interested in an evening book club next school year, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out to auxiliary@croftonhouse.ca.
