Central Otago District Arts Trust

Hello

What's on in Central Otago - September.

The Contact Alexandra Blossom Festival, for many, marks the beginning of spring, and the promise of warmer months ahead. The Blossom Festival kicks off on Friday the 22nd of September with The News Round the Clock Race and Mardi Gras. Saturday in the Park will feature entertainment for all ages including jugglers, magic shows, clowns and market stalls. Headline acts this year are Jody Direen and the Dunedin City Jazz Band. For further information and a full list of Blossom Festival events check out the webpage www.blossom.co.nz

Last week we celebrated National Poetry Day with an evening of poetry reading, accompanied by an exhibition of works based on the theme of water submitted by adults and young people of Central Otago. The event was opened by the Alexandra Primary School Choir performing a musical composition aptly titled 'Rain'. Last Thursday I went along to the Dunstan High School Arterati Showcase -  a polished presentation of jazz, rock, dance, visual arts, food and much more. Both the Poetry and Arterati evening's reinforced for me the superb standard of visual, literary, musical, and performance arts emerging from our local schools. This standard is something for Central Otago people to be proud of, and an absolute credit to the educators and pupils of Dunstan High and Alexandra Primary. With talent like this, the future of the arts in Central Otago remains bright.

60 finalists have been selected from a large number of entries received from throughout New Zealand for the Central Otago Arts Gold Awards 2017. The recipients of four excellence awards will be announced on the 16th of September. The Arts Gold Awards Finalists Exhibition will be on show at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery from Saturday the 17th September. Award judges Linda Tyler and Denise (Dee) Copeland will present a Floor Talk at 10.30am on the 17th.

Our What's On calendar is full of entertaining things to see and do in Central Otago this month...scroll down to see what else is on offer.
