Supporting Families Navigating Early-stage Type 1 Diabetes Project Update

Thanks to a 2024 Channel 7 Telethon Trust Research grant, researchers at the Kids Research Institute Australia and Perth Children’s Hospital have co-designed a new clinical pathway for WA families whose children have been identified as having early-stage type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Until now, there has been no clinical pathway for such children and their families, who live with the knowledge that they are at very high risk of progressing to clinical onset of T1D, and resultant lifelong need for treatment with insulin. The new co-designed pathway aims to provide them with tailored support and education during this period.

Find out more about the project and the next steps in the video above.
