Junior School Tours of the Old Residence

Beginning in the fall of 2024, Kara McDonald, Deputy Head, Community Engagement and Partnerships, and Manda Haligowski, Archivist, welcomed classes from the Junior School to tour the Old Residence to demystify the administrative building and foster a sense of community and belonging. Throughout the year, each class from the Junior School has visited the building to learn about the history of both the School and the Old Residence (which used to house boarding students!), and ask Ena Harrop, Head of School, any questions they had about CHS.

National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month—a time to celebrate and learn about the cultures, histories, and achievements of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. At Monday’s Senior School assembly, students watched this video about allyship and were encouraged to commit to learning more throughout the month, beginning with introductions to the North American Indigenous Games, the self-governing Tsawwassen Nation and Joshua Whitehead's novel Jonny Appleseed, among other topics. Screens across the Senior School are now sharing further Indigenous achievements in sports, science, and more!

CHS Community Book Club - See You in September!

On May 21, the CHS Community Book Club gathered for its final meeting of the school year to discuss The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters. A heartfelt thank you to event chair Ching Chen for her continued work in organizing and leading the book club meetings over the school year. Thanks to her dedication, parents and alumni had the opportunity to gather together through their joy of reading and have meaningful conversations around a wide range of thought-provoking books.
Mark your calendars! The next book club meeting is on September 17, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. This meeting’s theme is “Made in Canada” — bring a fiction or nonfiction book, either written by a Canadian author or set in Canada, to share with the group.
Note: The evening book club has been on hiatus during the past year due to low interest. If you are interested in an evening book club next year, we’d love to hear from you! Please reach out to auxiliary@croftonhouse.ca.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon – Thank You!

Crofton House teachers and staff were treated to a special luncheon in the Old Residence on May 22, featuring a well-curated menu, beautiful linens and flowers, and many thoughtful touches. The Staff Appreciation luncheon was made possible by the dedication of CHS parents, who provided generous donations and staffed the event with enthusiasm. Thank you to everyone who donated or contributed their time and effort. Special thanks to event chairs Isabell Suk and Gitanjli Sood for organizing the luncheon. What a wonderful way for parents to come together and express appreciation for our teachers and staff!
