Message from the Registrar

Kia ora koutou,

Welcome to this edition of the Immigration Advisers Authority newsletter. This issue focuses on the practical steps advisers can take to protect clients and maintain confidence in the immigration advice system.

Across this edition you’ll see recurring themes:

  • Effective supervision
  • Careful management of conflicts of interest (including where recruitment and immigration services overlap)
  • Clear written agreements and file records.

As usual, this edition summarises recent Tribunal decisions. This includes decisions that led to the cancellation of an adviser’s licence. These underline the importance of honesty, competent service, and meeting the obligations set out in the Code of Conduct.

Our first webinar for the year (27 May 2026) will look at supervision and professional and ethical business practices. I encourage you to register.

Thank you for the work you do to support migrants, employers, and the wider immigration system.

Ngā mihi nui,

Duncan Connor
Registrar of Immigration Advisers
