Coverage Code Updates

To better reflect the filing requirements of our client states, SLIP+ for States has updated the accepted tax status configurations for the coverage codes listed below. These coverages may now be submitted as either taxable or non-taxable, depending on the applicable statutory exemptions.

Alabama

  • 9002 – Aviation Cargo
  • 9003 – Aviation Product Liability

Tax Status Guidance:
Submit these coverages as taxable unless the risk qualifies for an exemption under Alabama Code §27-10-34 applicable to aircraft manufacturers or scheduled interstate flight operators.

Louisiana

  • 3002 – Ocean Marine Hull and/or Protection & Indemnity
  • 3003 – Ocean Cargo Policy
  • 3004 – Ship Repairers Legal Liability
  • 3005 – Stevedores Legal Liability
  • 3007 – Ocean Marine Builders Risk
  • 3008 – Longshoremen (Jones Act)

Tax Status Guidance:
Submit these coverages as taxable when the insured risk is in Louisiana or Louisiana waters. Risks located outside Louisiana are non-taxable, as defined under Louisiana Revised Statutes § 22:443

Action Required: MFA Mandatory
Starting January 1, 2027

To protect the sensitive information in your SLIP+ account, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be required for all SLIP+ users beginning January 1, 2027.

MFA adds a second layer of security when you log in. After entering your password, you'll confirm it's you with a code sent by text message (SMS), email, or generated by an authenticator app. Having MFA activated ensures your account cannot be accessed by unauthorized users, even if your password is compromised. We encourage all users to activate MFA before the deadline.

Set Up MFA Today

  • Avoid Login Interruptions: Starting January 1, users who have not enabled MFA will be prompted to set it up before they can reach SLIP+.
  • Protect Your Agency: MFA is one of the most effective ways to prevent unauthorized access to your account.

To enable MFA in SLIP+, log in to your SLIP+ account and follow the MFA prompts.

Montana Expands Filing Acceptance Dates

Beginning November 1, 2026, SLIP+ for States accepts all unfiled surplus lines Montana filings with effective dates prior to January 1, 2026.

Filings with effective dates prior to January 1, 2026:

  • Will not incur SLIP+ transaction fees
  • Will be charged premium taxes, including applicable fire tax

Filers should continue to file endorsements on policies previously reported in the Montana CSI Legacy Portal until the policy cancels or renews. Note: if a policy was previously filed in the Montana CSI Legacy Portal, all other endorsements for those policies will stay in that system. Filers are to only submit older policy data to SLIP+ for States if the policy was never filed in the Legacy Portal.

For more information on this change, please review the Montana Bulletin dated October 15, 2026.

Add State Licenses to Your Account

As new states join SLIP+, filers can add their state surplus lines licenses and begin filing in the states where they are licensed.

To Add a State License in SLIP+:

  1. Click your profile in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose State Agent Licenses, and click Add State License +
  4. Select the State from the drop-down, enter your license information and Save.

Agency Account System Feature

If your agency files on behalf of multiple surplus lines agents, our Agency Account feature can help simplify SLIP+ account management. The benefit of utilizing this tool is that it allows agency staff to utilize a single set of credentials when handling multiple surplus lines broker filings and payments.

The one requirement for this feature is that at least two surplus lines agents must already hold accounts within SLIP+ for States. Once the individual broker and agency accounts have all been registered, the brokers must complete and sign the Agent Authorization form. This form will be attached to the Welcome Email for the Agency Account and can also be found on the Settings page, once logged into the Agency SLIP+ account. The completed authorization forms should then be sent to SLIP+ staff at info@slipplus.com where the team will link the requested brokers to the Agency account.
