Lake Eildon National Park
Fraser Block campgrounds

Community update | November 2025

The Fraser Block campgrounds in Lake Eildon National Park – Devil Cove, Candlebark and Lakeside – are nestled on the shores of Lake Eildon, on Taungurung Country, and have played host to generations of campers.

We are updating the ageing water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure these systems meet today’s environmental standards, so that visitors can continue to enjoy camping at Lake Eildon National Park for years to come.

Contractor announced to update campground facilities

Campgrounds in the Fraser Block at Lake Eildon on Taungurung Country will soon receive new toilets to replace ageing infrastructure.

We have appointed construction company Naturform to update the facilities at Lake Eildon National Park. Naturform has nearly 40 years of experience delivering landscape construction projects.

Construction dates

Candlebark, Lakeside and Devil Cove campgrounds will close on 7 January 2026 for construction. All three campgrounds will reopen for Easter 2026.

We are also building a new toilet next to the main boat ramp. This will start in December. The existing toilet block at nearby Herb Fitzroy Day Visitor Area will remain open until the new toilet is finished.

Camping bookings

Camping bookings in the Fraser Block are open until 6 January, with campers to check-out on 7 January.

Camping bookings are available from 3 April, when the campgrounds reopen for Easter.

The updates

Water supply issues caused by ageing infrastructure have limited the capacity of the Fraser Block campgrounds in recent times.

Much of the water supply infrastructure was built in the 1960s and has deteriorated beyond repair. Changing the water and wastewater management infrastructure in the park ensures that these systems meet today’s environmental standards.

To address these issues, we are installing new accessible toilet blocks at Lakeside, Candlebark and Devil Cove Campgrounds.

Each new toilet block will feature a state-of-the-art dry-vault system, removing the need for water to be carted into the park. This provides an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective solution. Non-drinking water for hand washing will be provided by a gravity-fed rainwater tank.

The new facilities will not include showers and toilets will be non-flushing. Campers will need to bring their own drinking water.

These updates address the issues caused by ageing water and wastewater infrastructure. They meet today’s environmental standards and ensure that camping at Lake Eildon National Park is sustainable.

The new facilities will enable more Victorians to go camping in the great outdoors. They are funded by a $4.6 million investment from the Victorian Government’s ‘Victoria’s Great Outdoors’ program.
