Dear Alumnae,

This spring, we are focusing on initiatives that are part of the history and traditions of Crofton House School, particularly those where the School and the CHS Alumnae Association have partnered together.

The first mention of a golf tournament is in CHS Alumnae Association meeting notes in 1996, but it was only in 1998, when the School turned 100 years old, that the first actual tournament was held at University Golf Club. Debbie Pippen ’71 organized the first ‘women only’ tournament and in 1999, Jane Gray ’73 and Cathy Christopher, ’73, followed in her footsteps. In 2000, the tournament was changed by the Association to include all members of the CHS Community and in 2004 a group of Crofton House parents started to get involved with the organization of the tournament.

This year’s tournament will take place on Friday, May 26, 2023 at University Golf Club.

We took a walk through The Woods with Marc Stewart, our Head Gardener, who gave us an update on the reforestation and preservation efforts. Marc has been part of the CHS community for more than 20 years, taking care of all green spaces with his team.

In the last few months 10 new trees have been planted and test plots have been installed to help remove invasive species and reintroduce native plants and wildlife. These changes are helping to ensure that The Woods remains a magical place for future generations of Crofton alumnae.

In Marc’s words, “The Woods is its own classroom, and its continued existence is key to the education of Crofton House students.”

A heartfelt thank you to all of the alumnae who took the time to share with us their CHS story. Whether your memory is about a lifelong friendship from Crofton House, a special memory or experience you’ve had in the community, or a teacher who made a significant impact on you, we would love to hear from you. CHS is collecting stories year round and are always willing to hear about your experiences and share them with the community.

Currently, we are working with the Classes of 2000, 2002, 2003, 2013 and 2017 to organise reunions over the next few months. To express your interest in organising a reunion, please email alumnae@croftonhouse.ca.

We are excited to announce that Katharine Lee ’18 was selected as a Gates-Cambridge Scholar for a full-ride scholarship to Cambridge University to pursue a PhD in Pediatrics. If you would like to share your event or the event, so that the CHS Alumnae might support it, please contact alumnae@croftonhouse.ca.
