Call to heART: Oyster Bay's FIRST Cat Art Show
Cats have forever been a part of the lives of humans. From protecting grains and keeping ships pest-free to being today's furry family companions, they've always been there with us. To honor our furry friends, the Hive Market & Gallery and the Patricia H. Ladew Foundation will host the first "Call To heART" art exhibition to celebrate this bond. We are calling on all artists to submit their cat-themed artwork for consideration. We invite you to send in your original artwork representing how cats have influenced your life, or even life before our times, be it through watercolor, mixed media, pottery, black and white photography, abstract- whatever your medium. Here's your chance to be a part of Oyster Bay's first Cat Art Show, benefitting The Ladew Cat Sanctuary. Fun Fact: Patricia Ladew, the sanctuary's founder, was a visual artist herself, so we thought this was also a perfect tribute to celebrate the 50 years of saving cats that she started back in 1975. Happie* Tails*Fun fact: The "H" in Patricia H. Ladew Foundation, inc. stands for Happie which was Pat's middle name! Below are some of the lucky Ladewbies who found homes during the last month!
Bashful & Sleepy - Rescued from living on the streets of Long Island these two cuties, now Fig and Newt are loving life and their new dad!
Joonie - This sweet girl was found as a stray and ended up at Animal Care Centers of Brooklyn prior to transfer to us. Joonie's doing great in her new home! Jennika, Anna Beth and Cindy Lou - Jennika (top) arrived nursing her babies, missing one eye and nearly blind in the other, while also suffering a prolapsed rectum. AnnaBeth (tabby) came to us with a litter of kittens of her own, a devoted mama with nowhere to go. Cindy Lou's owner moved and left her outside. Understandably, all of these three kitties were on the shy side making it a little harder to adopt them out. That all changed last week when a kind veterinarian came to the shelter and asked who would have a more difficult time finding a home. The rest is happily-after-history. Happy - The only boy out of a litter of 6, Happy is loving life with his new mom.
Sneezy- Rescued from a Long Island backyard, Sneezy has all the love she needs (with some to spare!)
Sybil - After mama, Sybil, finished caring for her own kittens (all adopted) - this sweet girl is doing great and getting her own new mom to spoil her rotten!
Lydia - The last of Sybil's (above) kittens to go home, Lydia is loving life with her new family. Clementine (orange) and Skittles -These two senior kitties found their homes this month through our Seniors for Seniors Program. Their new owners preferred to stay out of the spotlight and let their new best buds shine instead. Doll - Our FIV+ gal went home with her new dad and is happy to have all the attention to herself instead of sharing it with the other cats! Libra - Libra was found as a stray. His new mom had been looking for the right fit for awhile and when he came in we knew he was the perfect fit! Libra went home through our Seniors for Seniors program, which we launched in 2018.
Scotch - When we first met Scotch, he was in terrible shape with a Scotch tape roll stuck around his neck, his coat was patchy from ringworm and he needed some dental surgery. Despite it all, Scotch never lost his sweetness -- he purred, trilled, played, and leaned in for affection from the very beginning. And now. . . he's found his forever family! No more sticky situations for Scotch - just love, safety, and happiness for the rest of his days. Become a Monthly Donor!Dopey (left) and Doc (with blue eyes!) are looking for their forever home!
