Arts Newsletter January - February 2011
A Word from the ChairWe start the 2011 year with very positive vibes. The Central Otago Distinct Arts Trust (CODAT) is now entering its second year with Maxine fully established as our Arts Coordinator.
The Trust is excited to see the new website functioning so well, with high viewing recorded after such a short time after being launched. The monthly newsletter is excellent way to keep in touch with what is happening in the area but does rely on artists and event organisers getting the information to Maxine. The events calendar is also an extremely good way to even out what is happening in the Central Otago area so that we get maximum attendance at what is being offered.
Maxine has taken some excellent photos of the recent Alexandra Community Arts event ‘Art in the Garden’, this was a very successful event organized for both holidaymakers, artists and those who reside in the area. The funds from this go towards two scholarships for artists – last year Annemarie Hope-Cross and Esther Oh were the two recipients.
The CODAT meets on the first Thursday of each month so if you have any ideas you think we should be discussing for the Central Otago Arts District area please get in touch. Our Trustees come from a wide geographic area, the Maniototo, Cromwell, Alexandra and Clyde. We are still looking for someone form the Roxburgh /Ettrick area, as it is important to us that every area is represented on the Trust. We look forward to 2011 with the continued promotion of the arts in our area and hope that you too can be part of this.
Regards
Kathi McLean
CODAT Chairperson. From the CoordinatorHi Everyone,
Keeping up with our prolific arts' community meant there was much to do in 2010, the first year in my job as arts' coordinator. This year I look forward to meeting more artists and getting to know everyone a bit better as we work together through our next round of intentions.
It was wonderful to see so many people at this year’s ‘Art in the Garden’ in Earnscleugh. The organisers (Alexandra Community Arts Council) were truly blessed with a weekend of sunshine which set off the gardens and homes of participants beautifully and provided a stunning background for artists' display of works. I took quite a few photos which I have put up on the Central Otago Arts Facebook page. Here is the link if you would like to have a look: www.facebook.com/centralotagoarts. An 'Art in the Garden' event was held at Clachanburn in the Maniototo very recently too. This also had excellent attendances in lovely weather.
I am happy to report that our new website, www.centralotagoarts.com
is doing really well with lots of people signing up to receive our newsletter and more artists listing themselves in the site's arts directory. With this new portal available for the arts in Central Otago, visitors can easily see what’s happening via the events calendar as well as viewing the art online. We have had an impressive amount of traffic to the website which is very encouraging and some great feedback too! Maxine Williams
