From Page to Screen

Check out the books that inspired some recent popular TV shows and movies.

Do you prefer to read the book first, or watch the screen adaptation first?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

George R.R. Martin

Taking place nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg - whose true name, hidden from all he and Dunk encounter, is Aegon Targaryen.

This collection covers the first three novellas following the adventures of Dunk and Egg - including The Hedge Knight, which has been adapted as the first season of HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms TV series.

Hamnet

Maggie O'Farrell

This award-winning novel has been adapted into an Oscar-nominated film.

Agnes is a woman as feared as she is sought after for her unusual gifts. She becomes a steadfast, centrifugal force in the life of her young husband, whose gifts as a writer are just beginning to awaken.

Drawing on her long-term fascination with the little-known story behind Shakespeare's most enigmatic play, Maggie O'Farrell writes Hamnet as a luminous portrait of a marriage and at its heart the loss of a beloved child.

Project Hail Mary

Andy Weir

Read Project Hail Mary before the movie arrives in cinemas later this year!

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission, and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

An Offer From a Gentleman

Julia Quinn

The third book in the Bridgerton series and inspiration for season four of Netflix's Bridgerton.

Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball. But when the clock strikes midnight, Sophie’s enchanting evening in this Cinderella retelling ends. Since that night Benedict Bridgerton has been able to think of nothing but the bewitching young woman.

Heated Rivalry

Rachel Reid

Based on Rachel Reid's bestselling Game Changers book series, Heated Rivalry is now a major HBO TV series.

Nothing interferes with pro hockey star Shane Hollander's game. Now that he's captain of the Montreal Voyageurs, he won't let anything jeopardize that - definitely not Boston Bears captain Ilya Rozanov, the sexy rival he loves to hate.

Wuthering Heights

Emily Brontë

Read the classic novel that inspired Emerald Fennell's new film.

Set on the desolate Yorkshire moors, this gothic masterpiece follows the tumultuous relationship between Heathcliff, an orphan brought to Wuthering Heights, and Catherine, his tempestuous soulmate. As their intense connection fuels jealousy and vengeance, generations of their families are ensnared in a tragic cycle of love and hatred.
