MEMBER PROFILE

Meet Dr Jessica Moncrieff-Boyd

SWHPN member Dr Jessica Moncrieff-Boyd is the Principal Clinical Psychologist at the Busselton-based Swan Centre South West, which provides support to individuals with eating disorders.

Jessica completed her clinical Masters and PhD at the University of WA (UWA). Her PhD focused on the experience of disgust in anorexia nervosa. Following this she relocated to London and spent several years working on an adolescent eating disorder inpatient unit. Her area of interest is the intersection with physical illness, as well as the challenge of working with ambivalence around recovery.

When Jessica was fifteen she found the psychology section in a bookshop and from then on she was hooked! "I think I’ve always been interested in understanding the ‘why’ behind people’s actions and thinking".

Jessica found returning to Australia a relief after her frenetic and intense London life! She says that she "always loved the idea of living rurally and was lucky enough for this desire to correspond with the Swan Centre in Perth opening a regional branch in Busselton". Jessica now lives on a 5- acre bush block and her physiology is much happier for it.

Jessica enjoys the strong sense of community in the South West, the shift in pace, and everything about the natural world, in particular the fairy wrens. When she's not busy working you'll find Jessica out walking her dog Albus or somewhere in the garden.

EVENT WRAP UP

Collie Networking Sundowner Event

In July, the SWHPN delivered a networking sundowner event for health professionals at the Collie Ridge Motel.  The intimate event provided a great opportunity for local health professionals to meet, discuss local health issues and learn about the newly built theatre at the Collie Health Service, including its surgical services all whilst enjoying some light beverages and canapes. Thank you to those health professionals that attended our event, we look forward to coming back in the future to deliver more events.

Harvey Meet and Greet Road Trip

The SWHPN Regional Program Officer was out and about in Harvey in August on a stunning sunny day meeting with local health professionals. The road trip was a fantastic opportunity to visit the town to introduce the South West Health Professionals Network, promote upcoming events and discuss local issues with health  practitioners - and sample the delicious mandarins!
