So the ‘Dancing Never Stops’: A Love Story

Les and Becky Engle wear red and white stripes as they dance a number on stage.

Les and Becky Engle began their lives together with a song and a dance. Over four decades, Les remained smitten and Becky kept dancing with boundless joy. In 2023, Les honored her life with a permanent scholarship at Oregon Community Foundation that helps students carry her legacy forward ... so the dancing never stops. Enjoy this love story.

‘Lyn Hennion Days’ at Children’s Museum Honors Life of Service

Former OCF Board Member Lyn Lyn Hennion laughs with children at the Children's Museum.

As a supporter and cheerleader for the Oregon Center for Creative Learning in Medford, Lyn Hennion would hand out free tickets to young families she met around town. After her passing last month at the age of 82, friends and colleagues continue to celebrate Lyn’s generosity and community spirit. Now, a new grant from the Reed and Carolee Walker Fund of Oregon Community Foundation will create a series of free admission days at the museum to honor the life and legacy of this civic leader, financial advisor and tireless advocate for children.

From Student-Athlete to Education Leader

Dr. Dorian Smith enjoys a funny moment with students at Oregon State University.

Dr. Dorian Smith’s connection to Oregon State University runs deep. A triple Beaver who earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from OSU, Dr. Smith played football for Oregon State and professionally in Canada. Today, he leads programs that help students connect early, stay engaged and persist to graduation.

That includes the Nia Black Scholar Community, an academic living-learning community, one of seven at OSU, that partners academic programs with residential communities to help students build connections with each other, faculty and advisers.

To celebrate Black History Month, we honor Dr. Smith and other leaders of Oregon Community Foundation's Black Student Success Network, made up of 25 Black-led, Black-serving organizations working to help Black students succeed.
